    doing a SH KEY/FULL DD5 brought up topics 1353, 1829, and 2192..
that's definitely lowend consumer stuff, and there may be some other
    products mentioned for contrast..

    I just spent a goodly sum on a roland spd-8 perc controller/sgu.

Hi Stuart !

I made myself another Christmas present and bought a used DD11 for 280,- DM.
I'm very pleased with it. It has reasonable good sounds (for the price), it has
good built in patterns, there's even a mode where the DD11 plays accompaniment
(it obviously has the sound chip of one of those PSS keyboards). It has MIDI IN
and MIDI OUT. That was they main reason for me to buy it, so that I can record
some fancy breaks or drum rolls into the sequencer. There are 10 drum sets
which cannot be edited, some of them are used for vibraphone and mallets
(sounds really good). It has also (limited) sequencing capabilities. There are
three songs that you can record. You select the style and speed and the
recording starts with the first hit. You select the chord by one of the eight
pads (C-C) or half-tones by using the "base drum" foot switch concurrently. If
you want a min, min7, sus or whatsoever, you hit the appropriate pad shortly
after the first hit. By doing so, you can record parts of a song for exercising
(a whole song is difficult, because there is NO kind of editing capability).

The only restriction is the inability to edit the drum map, but you can
compensate that on your SGU. The SPD-8 is almost 3 times the price, but has
larger pads and you assign more than one note to pads, which gives interesting
new capabilities for playing mallets etc. (There was an article in the American
issue of Keyboards in Oct.90).

So all in all, the DD11 is really good for it's price.

	best regards

Well other than Richard, the interest in these low priced machines
    doesn't seem overwelming.

However I bought one. It goes great with my Band-in-a-Box. As well as
drum sounds, it has 6 (?) other patches:- Brass, 2 pianos, wood bass,
electric bass (and something else ?). Sure, these sounds are a bit
pathetic but it's only a background noise while I play my DH10 !
