2497.0. "R-5 and MC50 ??" by WMOIS::RAY () Mon Nov 19 1990 15:05

I'm having a problem with trying to figure this out, hope
someone out there can help me. I'm currently using the
Roland R5 drum machine along with and MC50 Sequencer, both
have a built in metronome. The R5 has some pre-recorded
drum patterns that I like to use while just putting ideas
down on the sequencer, how do I get the sequencer to play
the R5 since the tempo's of the 2 don't match.

                                            Thanks

                                                Howard

Make sure one is set to "slave", and use the other to generate
    MIDI clocks for both...

    Oooops, sorry...

In order to "sync" the 2 devices, they both must be responding to the
    same clock pulses.

Your R5 probably has a MIDI menu of some sort. Poke thru it until you
find a "clock" or "sync" option, and then set it to "external" or
"MIDI". If you don't have the MC50 connected to it, you should be
unable to start the drum machine. This is goodness...

Also check the MC50 to make sure it is sending clock pulses. I think
the MC50 is much the same as the MC500, which means you must enable
    "clock out".

Then connect MIDI out from the sequencer to MIDI in of the R5...

You can also set the R5 to be the master by setting the MC50 to
    MIDI sync.

The point is, you only want *1* unit to generate MIDI clock tics. In
a properly configured setup, the other one will respond and stay in
    perfect sync...
