2408.0. "Unsuccesfull transfers from tape::->Amiga" by GVA05::BERGMANS () Tue Aug 07 1990 13:11

    I am experiencing problems in trying to get software from the network
    into my Amiga.

    Let me give you an example.

    1. I copy from tape::user2:[amiga.fish.ff012]amiga3.zoo into my
    account VMS account.

    The descritpion of this program in ff012 is:

    amiga3d Shows a rotating 3 dimensional solid "Amiga sign".
                No source available, executable only (downloaded from
                a Denver BBS)
                .................

    2. I "UnZOO" it within my VMS acount and that generates two files:
       AMIGA3D and 3DOBJECT.

    3. Using Kermit on the VAX and on my laptop, and with the VAX in
    "server" and "File type binary" I copy both files onto my laptop.

    4. I bring the laptop home.

    5. With Kermit on the Laptop in server mode and on the Amiga in
     "Image mode" I "GET" the two files on df0:

    6. When I try to run these files I get:

     "error 103" for one file, and "not an object" fo the other.

    This is just a step by step description of one example. I did numerous
    transfers all had similar problems.

    For checking purpose I tranfered the two file back to the laptop,
    and did a file compare between the original and retransferd files.
    The compare came out OK.

    I always get the files that I want into the AMIGA but none of the
    programs will run. Documentation and text files seems to be OK.

    Do I do something grossly wrong??

    Regards

    You'll probably get a more helpful response in the Amiga conference.
    Sorry, I don't have its location at hand.
