2307.0. "What happened? Help!!!" by COGVAX::LABAK () Thu Apr 05 1990 13:00

Anybody have any ideas on this one?

Last night playing a job when something strange happen. It doesn't make
sense to me, may it makes sense to someone else.

My setup consists of an ESQ-1 midi to a P330 moduel and a PF10
midi to an FB01 module. While I has playing the EQS-1, it started drifting
out of tune. It almost sounded like the mod wheel was forward, it was not.
I cut the volume on the EQS-1 and turned up the volume on the P330 and that
was doing the same thing. I then played the bottom setup (Pf10 midi to the
FB01) and that was fine. Ok, so that eliminates the AMP and Effects box.
Then the problem went away, only to reappear again half way through the
next set. The problem stayed for about 15 seconds then went away.

	Question:

	- If the ESQ-1 had a bad circuit why would the P330 be going out
of tune also? Maybe midi tune data is being sent to the P330?

I didn't have much time to isolate the problem last night because it was
so intermittent and "the show had to go on." Once the gig was over I couldn't
recreate the problem. As you can see I'm really looking forward to tonights
gig. Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks
Rick L.

Check your PB wheel. My Mirage's wheel got a little grundgy at a gig
and slowly started sending out little tiny PB messages to any synth
on the same channel. The MKS slowly dropped about 2.763973 semi-tones,
which I never noticed until I started the next song and was way outta
    tune.

I now make it a habit to just whack the PB and mod wheels often.

I don't know if you saw a note I entered here a couple of weeks back
about a similar problem I had with an MT-32, which was drifting out of
tune with the rest of my setup. The conclusion I came to after reading
the various comments I got was that it was an AC power problem. I
suspect that the power supplies in some equipment may be more
susceptible to fluctuations in the line voltage than others.

You might want to try taking along some kind of line filter, or at
least plugging the faulty gear into a different circuit.

    RE.1
I should be able to shut of midi control signals(like mod wheel)
to the P330. That way if the Esq-1 starts going south the P330 should
be fine. I'll have to check tonight to see how I have this set on the
    Esq-1.

    RE.2
Never thought it could be a power problem. I think I have the
ESQ-1/P330 and the PF10/FB01 plugged into the same power strip.
The PF10/Fb01 seemed to be fine when the ESQ-1/P330 started having
problems. I'll check that tonight also. Maybe the ESQ-1/P330 is more
    susceptible to voltage fluctuation.

    Thanks so far.
