2064.0. "Macintosh Directory (Hardware/Software)" by AICAD::MIYATA (Gaylord K Miyata DLB5-2/B3 291-8199) Tue Aug 01 1989 19:04

I just added a MAC to my system and was wondering what MAC-based
music software you find worthy. Use the product name as the reply
title and provide the following info:

	* short product description
	* pros/cons or advantages/disadvantages
	* unusual hardware or software requirements
	*list price, good street price and where it can be bought at that price

This would provide a useful list of MAC-based music software under a
recent topic.

Thanks,
Gaylord

    I saw Vision demoed at MACworld last Saturday in the Opcode/Roland
    booth by Keith Borman(sp?), the guy who wrote the Vision tutorial.
    It is really amazing and very slick. I bought a copy at the show for
    $385 from MacOrchard.

    The guy said that Opcode wants to sell mainly through music stores that
    can demo and support the software. Lasalle's and Wurlitzer did not have
    demo versions available or installed last time I visited. He said he
    would fix that this week. He said a good discounted price should be
    about $400. He was a little surprised by the low price available from
    MacOrchard (Berkeley, CA). MacOrchard claims to carry the entire Opcode
    product line, including hardware, and about everything else for a Mac,
    and they will match prices.

    The literature implies that Jan Hammer and Herbie Hancock are current
    users.

    More when I have the literature handy...

    The Jan Hammer quote about Vision is

    "If you compare all the really good sequencers on the Mac,
    Vision is more than the sum total of those sequencers."

    And they say in the brochure that Herbie Hancock and Thomas Dolby are
    using it.

    Opcode mentions in the release notes that it has been in field test for
    five months, in their minds, a unusually long time for a new product.

I suggest that Macintosh software reviews/reports/comments be kept in
     their own notes. Duplicated info is unnecessary and unwanted.
     Same can be said for cluttered notes conferences. (The 'Vision'
     software discussion will probably merit it's own note too.)

2064.6030-based Macs and Intelligent Music M 2.0, Upbeat 1.2AICAD::MIYATAGaylord K Miyata DLB5-2/B3 291-8199Wed Aug 16 1989 20:196
Intelligent Music's products M 2.0 and Upbeat 1.2 don't work properly
w/ SE/30 or Mac IIcx; something to do w/ the change in timing chip address
causing a synchronization problem leading to an eventual system hang/deadlock.

Intelligent Music claims the update for M and new version of Upbeat (both avail
"sometime in 9/89") will fix the problem.
