2059.0. "Roland Jupiter 6 Discussion" by MRSVAX::MISKINIS () Fri Jul 28 1989 17:18

    Fellow Midiholics:

    	I've poked around, but couldn't find much discussion on
    the Roland Jupiter6. I purchased one yesterday (from #12.)
    and would like to know if anyone out there has them, and if so
    if they'd be interested in sharing patches, tricks, etc.

2059.1Family Resemblance?DRUMS::FEHSKENSTue Aug 01 1989 18:256
    I believe the Jupiter-6 bears a strong resemblance to the SuperJupiter,
    so I'd be happy to chat. My next reply is a list of the SuperJupiter's
    programmable parameters, so we can compare architectures.

    This is actually a programming sheet I made up for the SuperJupiter
    (MKS-80); hence the format.

2059.3We'll see about that!MRSVAX::MISKINISThu Aug 03 1989 18:416
    Hi Len,

    	Thanks for replying, I'll check things out, and will reply
    soon...

2059.4Another JP-6 owner...MASTER::DDREHERMon Aug 07 1989 21:505
    I have a Jupiter 6. No velocity, primitive MIDI implementation
    but has those great analog sounds. Do you have any good patches?
    Mine are mostly custom.

    Dave
2059.5I was hoping YOU had a big patch library!MRSVAX::MISKINISTue Aug 08 1989 13:2115
    Hi Dave,

    	Yeh, I know I saw it when I visited your place with Garret.
     I heard a lot about it, and the incredible helicopter patch. The
    random LFO sold me the most, as I've never seen anther synth that
    had one.

    	I have the original JUPITER-6 digital cassette (factory) and
    whatever's in the synth now...

    	Unfortunately I can't extract the settings through MIDI, but
    I'm trying to learn about it as time permits. I never knoew there
    were so many aspects of analog synth programming...

2059.6Somewhat unrelated questionDYO780::SCHAFERBrad - back in Ohio.Tue Aug 08 1989 17:168
    Not to get down a rathole, but I read an article in Keyboard once where
    Pat Leonard said something about the Juptier's MIDI response being
    "slow", and that they had to use SMPTE to tighten it up when laying
    down a track.

    Comments?

2059.7IN THRU the OUT box!MRSVAX::MISKINISTue Aug 08 1989 18:4612
    Hmm, I can't answer that yet...

    The Jupiter-6 doesn't have a midi thru.  My TR-505 doesn't have
    a midi thru.  I don't have a thru-box.  Therefore I must choose
    between having drums OR jupiter-6 being computer (sequencer)
    controlled.

    I just got the schematic for a 2-in 2-out (thru) switch box, and
    should have it done by the weekend (PIECE OF CAKE). I'll add a
    reply after I do, and post any delay times I discover...

    RE: Slow MIDI response....

    I've had a few JP-6's over the past 6 years, and I've had it MIDI'ed
    to DX-7's, Mirages, DW-8000's, JX-10's, and JX-3P's, and I've never
    noticed a MIDI lag. It doesn't do a whole lot _with_ MIDI, but what
    it did, it did OK for me. I've recorded with it a little, but I mostly
    used it live, so I probably wouldn't have noticed minute lagging
    that would stand out in a studio environment anyway.

    ps. Thanks for the schematic, John.

    I have a blow up schematic from the original, which is MUCH easier
    to read. Can you mail mr your mailstop again..
