1978.0. "Tools to write music parts" by NSDC::ESTILL () Fri Apr 28 1989 15:53

Hi! I have a friend here in Neuchatel, Switzerland, who is a composer. He owns a Yamaha
Electric Piano and wishes to find software that would at least be able to convert what is played
(monophonically) on the piano into a printed music score, and enter some parameters defining
the key, beat,etc. He hasn't bought a PC/Mac/whatever yet, so no preference for the hardware.

Additional options would include (in no particular order):

- ability to store and edit such scores (e.g., kerning);
- ability to typeset several scores on the same sheet, with aligned bars;

thank you very much.

    Your friend should run out to the newstand and get the latest Keyboard
    magazine. It's an issue devoted to notation software and it will
    properly set his expectations.

Thanks, Dave.

I may have some work to do translating it French; a good exercise for me. My friend has had his
works played in Boston, so maybe this will let him take a trip out of Switzerland again!

Thanks a lot!

Your lines are too long for us poor VT terminal users. I'm interested in
what you have to say, but can't read it.

Sorry. My friend has had his works performed
in Boston before and he has started a new
symphony. I found a French edition of
Keyboards yesterday (April). Is it actually
Keyboard? Is it May or April?

Thank you,

Carrie
