1908.0. "Alesis HR16B Digital Drum Machine" by MIZZOU::SHERMAN (quality first cause quality lasts) Mon Feb 13 1989 01:11

The other net had a blurb about the HR16B. Didn't give much
information, but indicated that it had more processed sounds.
Sounds like an add-on box to the HR16 to expand the machine.
    Hmmm ...

Has anyone heard what new sounds are in the 16B? I heard that it's
going to sell for $399. Can anyone confirm that?

Mike,

It's supposed to have lots of Latin percussion sounds. It's designed as
an enhancement to the HR16. The stores don't have any info right now. More
infor should be forthcoming in several weeks.

The report I read on the 16B last night did not mention latin sounds.
It did mention that it would have more standard? drum sounds but
with built in ambient treatments. So that you can save on external
processing for your drum sounds. It also said that if the 2 HR's
were linked together. (I presume via Midi) that you could drive
both machines through one interface. So presumably it's like one
drum machine with 32 pads. This doesn't sound viable to me. Think
    of step programming ?

    April '89 KEYBOARD, p. 86:

Alesis announced the HR 16:B ($499) drum machine, first cousin to
the very successful HR-16. What's the difference, you ask? Sounds.
    The new machine features stacked, ambient, 'in your face' sounds;
otherwise the machines are identical in every respect. New software
allows the two machines to work together as one.
