1788.0. "Roland A50 keyboard controller" by SQUEKE::GOSSELIN (praying for snow) Wed Nov 30 1988 10:35

Anyone else get the latest issue of the Roland rag yet?
They have an article on the "ultimate" midi set-up (slightly
biased, I should say). Anyway, they make mention of their new
A-50 keyboard controller being at the heart of this arrangement.
Has anyone heard anything else about this new controller?

	just curious....

I got mine last week. Haven't had a chance to read it yet...

My friend WAS on the list and received several issues, but hasn't
got the new one yet. I signed up on the mailing list at a keyboard
clinic at EU in Worcester, and he didn't since he was already on
their list. It seems you must RENEW now and then or lose out...

Yeah, the rag is a bunch of subjective hype. I get a kick out of the
articles that talk about all the Roland gear some dude has - especially
when you can look at the photo and see a Yamaha TX816 sitting there.

Anyway, the A50 is *real* expensive (about the price of an S550!), can
xmit on 4 channels at a time or split 4 ways, has poly aftertouch and
"the feel of a Super JX keyboard", which to me feels like mush. Oh,
    it's 76 keys.

I've never been a fan of the Roland feel, although the unit is packed
with nifty features. If the price dropped $1000, I might think about
picking one up. As it stands now, I'll continue to use my lowly KX76.
The A50 is too overpriced for me.

Too overpriced for me too. Besides, I'll continue to use my KX88
(I still have many moons left to finish paying it off). I was just
curious in case I ever decide to buy another controller.

Sounds like the Ensoniq EPS is a equivalent, perhaps in some case
"better" controller at the same price but you get a sampler as an
"extra". Maybe not as many keys though.
