1763.0. "ATARI-ST software for Korg DSS1?" by MRSVAX::MISKINIS () Tue Nov 08 1988 18:30

    Hello,

I just put a deposit on a floor model Korg DSS-1 sampling keyboard.
I was wondering if anyone out there has any 'nice' non-copyrighted
samples they may want to share...

Does anyone know if there is any Atari-ST software that can
be use to edit samples, or otherwise manipulate the other features
    of the DSS-1...

DOes anyone know where I can find the "Everything you wanted
to know about the Korg DSS-1" book?

    Thanks in advance,

    _John_

    Hi John,

Did you get your DSS-1 yet? It's a great sounding synth.

As far as samples, Korg's library is limited, but I believe
there are two sets of "factory" samples. One is the original set
of 32, and there is a revised set also. A good majority of them
are pretty decent. Did you get the factory set of 32, included with
the synth. When I bought mine, I got the revised version.

As far as additional samples and edit/lib software, a subscription
to Electronic Musician will point you in the direction of where
to find this stuff. It is out there...

The book your looking for also exists.
It's called:	Korg Dss-1 Sampler "Making it happen"
    			by Lorenz M. Rychner/Charles Mead
    			$34.95

It's helpful in that they explain how the box works, and a sort
of "cook book" approach getting it to work FOR YOU!

This ought to get you flying...

1763.2Yes, I got the DSS-1JUNIPR::MISKINISWed Dec 21 1988 13:3623
    Hi Mike,

YES, I got the DSS-1 a few weeks ago... I'm really impressed
with the instrument. I've found a demo version of EDIT-DSS1, which
allows you to load/examine/write (can't write in the demo version)
sounds, multisounds and patches. You can load a multisound into
the atari, edit it with the mouse, and hear what it sounds like
right through the ATARI. I'm not sure if I'm going to spend $250
for the real version which will allow me to save my work...

On another note, I may have a problem with digital delay B.
EVerything's OK until I set the MODs on the delay. PATCH number
24 on the Performance Disk I (voices) demonstrated the problem.
There's a brief low volume buzz every 7 seconds or so. I'm not
sure if this happens on every DSS-1... DO you have on? If so,
try patch 24 on the disk and listen closely... Or I can send
you a disk that (may) demonstrate the problem (unless it's a problem
    with my synth).

A friend says that maybe this is normal...

  I confess - I'm also a DSS-1 owner. I was going to try patch 24 on
Disk 1 last night, to see if I could hear the noise you described...
But what I found was that I don't have a "voices" patch at #24 on
disk 1. The only disk I have that has a "1" on it is labelled something
like "KDSU-001R". Perhaps the "R" means it's from this replacement
set that was mentioned earlier? I also noticed for the first time
that the disks are not numbered sequentially... are yours? Of course
I'm wondering if there are other KORG disks that I don't have. I got
the DSS-1 new about 4 months ago, with the 30 disk set. If it seems
our disk sets are different, I'll be happy to mail you a list of the
ones I have - maybe we can do some trading. (Since I have an Atari,
too, I'd also love to borrow the EDIT program you mentioned...)
