1761.0. "How do you get a NEW gig??" by HPSTEK::RENE (that dreaded FORMAT button....) Tue Nov 08 1988 11:16

(also in DREGS::MUSIC)

Well, guys, since my band has recently broken up, I am actively looking
for another gig. What are the best ways to do this? Some ways that come to
mind are:

	1) posting your name at local music stores

	2) posting your name in the notesfiles 8^))

	3) try the 'musicians wanted' part of the WantAd...

How do you do it? How have you found a band in the past that may need
you? Is it a good idea to call booking agents and ask them if any of their
bands needs an XZXZXZX player?

    Any info GREATLY appreciated !!!

          Thanks again,

                    Frank

Frank,

This guy called me up one time, because I had an ad in the WantAdvertiser
selling my Kurzweil 250. He was looking for musicians for his band, and
figured that anyone selling a keyboard was probably a keyboard player, or
might know of someone who was looking to play in a band. I thought this
was a rather unusual but clever approach. You could use the same approach.
If you play keys, try calling some of the people selling guitars, or even
keyboards. They might be just leaving or forming a band, or may have other
musician friends who are forming a band or looking for new members. It
might take a lot of phone calls, but it is kind of fun talking to other
musicians. It's kind of a networking strategy.

good luck,

dave

	Hey...!

That must have been ME that called you up! If it was four or five months
ago that this happened, then I'm SURE it was me, since I was doing exactly what
you described.

	How 'bout that?!

You think YOU got problems finding a band?

    			I work SECOND SHIFT!

All I can find are low-lifes who don't have jobs
and can play all day but they stink.
