1593.0. "Yamaha DX21 4op FM Synth: Comments?" by TOOK::DDS_SEC (What, are you silly?) Wed Aug 03 1988 15:01

Ok, guys, another question. How is the DX21 for a low-end synth?
I haven't seen it anywhere for review and I was wondering if someone
could tell me what it's all about, key splits? multi-timbral? (prob-
ably not) velocity-sensitive? I'd appreciate any input in the long,
vast search for my synth. Thanks,

1593.1Don't say "DX" in front of len...JAWS::COTEI'm not making this up...Wed Aug 03 1988 15:1318
I own one and like it...

It's a 4-op (sine wave only) FM synth. 8 algorythms. 5 octave keyboard.
Receives velocity info, but doesn't send it. Great pitchbending
modes (key-on, hi-note, low-note). Supports splits and layers.
8 note polyphonic. Split or layer mode can be 4/4 voice or 7/1.
128 ROM voices. 32 RAM. 32 performance memory slots. Mono or stereo
outputs. MIDI IN, OUT and THRU ports. Seperate TX and RX channels
but no local off mode. On board chorus. Headphone and BC jack.
Saves to tape or sys-ex. Non- backlit LCD (uck).

There was one for sale in here a short time ago for around $350.
If I'd had the cash, I'd have bought it sight unseen. Don't know
    if it's still for sale...

FM programming is bizarre but you catch on after a while.

But you can say "TX" in front of me. After I've fully absorbed
my D-550, a TX-802 is next on the list. Then I'll really be one
of the guys, instead of the neighborhood Roland weenie.

    Hey Edd

Is an algorythm a formula with a beat ?

We should start a whole topic on musical dipthongs.

    Like ...... ( I can't think of any more)

Can't you have your personal conversations via mail.
I don't mean to be a wet blanket on your party,
but your making it frustrating. (60-90seconds to wait for
each reply, just to see your personal stuff)

(I asking nicely, because you guys do contribute great stuff to
commusic, and I dont want you to stop doing that)
