1552.0. "New LERDS-BIM site?" by DREGS::BLICKSTEIN (Yo!) Thu Jul 21 1988 13:06

Last nite at LERDS-BIM I took an informal poll and it would seem that
the majority of people who attend LERDS-BIM have to drive South on
    495 to get to TF's.

In an ideal location the number of people driving North to get there
would equal the number of people driving south.

I *really* enjoy LERDS-BIM. It's not hard to see why some people have
been going every week. However, Framingham is really a long drive
and I can rarely get motivated to do it. I almost wimped out of doing
it last night but I knew people were expecting Commusic V tapes so
I went anyway (and yes, I'm very glad I did).

I know that TF's may be part of some tradition, but is there anyway
I can talk you folks into a more northern location? I think there's
quite a few Spit-brookers (I've talked to 'em) that would start
coming if it wasn't quite so far.

No "pocket vetos" here please. I expect to hear from at least Len,
Ed and Ron, even if what you say is not what I want to hear.

Tom Foolery's that we were at is not in Framingham. It is in
probably Westborough, or may the town west of it. Framingham is
about 15 miles east of where we were.
You need a big town with big reastuarants with big bars.
Except for that little place in marlboro on 20 west of 495,
there isn't any. didn't they kick us out?
Besides, we don't want to stay in Westborough. Lyme disease was
    discovered there a month ago.
    Tom

I know for a fact there is NOTHING wrong with the limes at Tom
    Foolery's.

Going north is going outta my way. TF's is on the way home. Selfish
    reasons? Sure...

Sometimes BIM only lasts for 16 ozs. Traveling to a half way site
for 1 beer seems, well, let's just say I know how *you* feel about
    traveling to TF's...

If it was moved I'd probably be inclined to skip it. (And go to
    TF's anyhow...)

Sorry Dave, not what you wanted to hear I'm sure...

    Edd
1552.3Don't bother to hold it at all, chapsMARVIN::MACHINThu Jul 21 1988 14:157
What sort of a BIM is that? 16 oz?

Every ligger at the Berks Bum has to consume at least 12 pints
of lunatic soup, sing the Queen and belch 'Rule Brittania' in fifths
before we even *call* it a BUM.

    Richard.

Yeah, well, we know about you, uh, limeys ...

Lyme disease in Westborough? Must come from all those MIDI clock
    ticks.

The primary virtue of TF's is that it's on the way home for the
    principle players.

Now, if we could find a place here in Littleton, it being more or
less halfway betwixt Marlborough and Nashua, I'd probably not complain.
But what would we do without Joe Arpeggio to let us know that it's
time to go. And could anybody fill Bawbwah's, uh, shoes?

Well speaking entirely selfishly here I have to say that I find
TF's the perfect location. It's not quite on my way home but close
enough to make the occasional visit. Possibly October?

    						Paul.
1552.6...well as long as we're talking selfish reasons...LOLITA::DIORIOThu Jul 21 1988 14:4710

Since I live in Haverhill Ma, it takes me a solid hour to get to
work (MLO in Maynard). For me to drive to TF's consume mucho brews
and drive an hour and a half (at least) back home again is just
absurd. I highly doubt I'll ever be able to attend a LEDS-BIM, as
    much as I'd like to.

    my 2 cents...

    Re .6

You should come to a BUM. Discounting the flight (on which you can
drink as much as you like), it's closer -- 45 mins from the airport.

Incidentally, since you drink so little at the BIMS, I doubt you've
ever seen PK's trick with a pineapple, two strawberries and a damp
    copy of the Melody Maker...

    Richard.
1552.8I'd love to work there!LOLITA::DIORIOThu Jul 21 1988 15:339

After about 6 beers on the flight over, I'd probably get killed
trying to do a 45 minute drive on the other side of the road!!
But maybe it would be worth it to see PK's trick with the pineapple
    etc.!!

Is anyone open to the idea of having it a little further up 495
(say about 20 miles!) once in awhile?

    Say like around Littleton?

There's a ton of NH would-be BIMers who might come (more often or
"at all") were it not for the drive. To name a few (not that this
constitutes any committment on their part): Scot Aurenz, Chad Leigh &
friend, Dave Blickstein, Tom Benson, Zach, Daryl Gleason, John
Middleton & son, Pete Vinsel, Dan Gosselin, Rob Mashia, Erikur
Halgrimmson, Rik Sawyer, Dave Pickett, Pete Laquerre (pardon if
    I forgot anyone).

I'd rather have ONE LERDS-BIM that occasionally is held more north,
but perhaps I should ask the question: Anyone up in the NH area
interested in starting a LERDS-BIM north?

You're gonna have to come up with another name, at least for the
    LERDS part.

We original LERDS-BIMmers can of course find it in our hearts to
occasionally schedule a BIM in Littleton (especially when the Yangtze

Have I forgotten about "LERDS-BIM North", or "NERDS-BIM", or any
of the proposed titles for the LERDS-BIM for NH-sters?

    No.

    I've been busy.

Let's try again. Let's see if we can select a suitable time and
place. I'd like people to post when and where they would like
to see it. Please post all the times you could make it rather
than just when you'd like to see it.

As for me, I would like to see it "after work" and at the moment,
no particular day is bad, although I would greatly prefer to see it happen
    on Wednesdays.

I tink a good place to hold it would be at the lounge in Ming Garden.
    It has the following advantages:

    	1) it's very close to Spit Brook, and halfway in between the MK
    	   and Chelmsford site

    	2) the volume of the music (if any) is kept lowe enough
    	   for conversation,

    	3) We can order wonderful chinese appetizers including their
    	   outrageous Szechuan Dumplings

    	4) Those so inclined, can have dinner "afterwards" at the best
    	   chinese restaurant in Nashua.

    	5) Len, Edd and Ron might be enticed up with the promise of
    	   good chinese food.

I also propose that we hold a special BIM every so often halfway
between BIM-North and BIM-south at the Yangtzee in Littleton.

This will be in March. I'll be in Bedford for the entire month (argh,
6 DAYS a week, ARGH!!) and we figured it might be a good time to intro-
duce some of the north-landers to the pleasures of BIMming.

Chad, drive to LKG. Sniff. Follow your nose to the large Chinese restaurant
that's about 3 feet further up King St. away from Littleton Common. It's
closer than the cafeteria for some LKG-ites.

I'm good for a Commusic tape, too, if someone brings them.

Route 495 to Rt 119 East. (2nd exit north of Route 2)
Go one block East on 119 to first traffic light. Wave at LKG on your right.

This is all very clear when you are there. It's the only light around.

Turn right. You are proceeding North on King street (Route 110), LKG is still
on your right. Just a little past LKG, and a few shops on the roadside, is
the Yangtzee River, on the right.

	See you there,

	Eirikur

In fact, I think if you replace every instance of the word "right" with
the word "left" in your reply, then you've got it on the nose... I
think.

You are both quite right. Did I ever say I knew which way was up?
I sometimes have to rely on the old Three Stooges routine (valid for me since
I'm right handed): "The right is the one I write with and the left is the one
that's left."
