1489.0. "what is going price for a used TX7?" by FREKE::LEIGH () Tue Jun 28 1988 20:10

   I am interested in getting a used TX7 in the next few months and am
   interested in what would be an acceptable price to pay for one. I am
   going to look at 'tiser type publiications, as well as stores (like Daddy's).

   Thanks ahead of time!

1489.1Also looking for a TX7 . . .BEOWLF::BARTHThu Jun 30 1988 14:5919
    Chad,
    	I'm interested in getting a TX7 also. Do you know much about
    them? It is my understanding that it is a modular version of the
    original DX7. Is that correct? That means that I could transfer
    my 6-operator patches directly from my DX7 to the TX7? And the
    TX7 has a breath controller port?
    	My main reason for this is that I'd like to get one of the sampled
    pianos with piano action (like the roland RD series) for my setup;
     I also refuse to carry around more than two keyboards, so the DX
    is the logical choice to go (the other option is my D50, which
    definitely stays!). But, there are a few sounds on the DX that
    I'd rather not live without; the DX rhodes, breath-controlled sax,
    and breath-controlled brass, to name a few.
    	Anyway, I'd like to get the TX7 to play these sounds through
    my new controller.

    	Well, thanks in advance if you can answer some of my questions.

	Ron,

	The TX7 does NOT have breath controller capability. It can only
be controlled via MIDI in and the transmitting keyboard must house all the
controllers you're looking to use.

	For your info, I sold a used TX-7 a few months back for $350.

    FWIW: I sold my tx7 for 450$ recently.
    	  Yes, you can hook the tx7 downmidistream from the dx7 and
    	  dump your patches to the tx7. The tx7 also has performance
    	  mapping, which basically means you can set it up so that
    	  whenever you do a program change (patch select) on the dx7
    	  a corresponding tx7 patch will be changed to. (you can set
    	  which patch gets changed to)
    	  I got rid of my tx7 because I didnt have a dx7 to load patches
    	  from, just cassettes. If I had means to patch it I definately
    	  would have kept it. It is sonically equal to the dx7. (sounds
    	  great)

I also suggest that you check out the TX81Z before you buy. I got a new
one from Thoroughbred in FL for $300 and it is the only FM Y-word that
I have tried that I like (being a Roland fan).

1489.5I like 6 op 'cause everybody else does.PANGLS::BAILEYTue Jul 12 1988 19:508
    Of course, the TX81Z doesn't have the 5000 PD patches which the
    TX7 has.

    A 6-op Yamaha synth plus a computer with a bulkdumper program (Atari's
    are nice and cheap, and my program is free to deccies) offers an
    almost overwhelming sonic palette.

	Genau!!  (exactly!)

	Of course, I hope in the future to also get a TX81Z.

	I can't agree more....

	I'm still in a state of disbelief at the number
	 of PD patches I've picked up for my TX802. (see note 1467)
