1409.0. "Another Roland D10/D20/D110 (Rackmount) L/A Synth Topic" by UTROP1::VDBOS () Tue May 24 1988 12:47

    High,

    After having read a lot of commentsabout the D10, D20 I decided
    to go for it!

    Now I am having great difficulties with my neighbours, I am driving
    them mad with this FANTASTIC sound machine. Truly it is great!

    I wonder who else purchused a D10 or D20. It would be nice to start
    a conference about this series of keyboards.

    Who else???????????

    Pete,
         I haven't had a chance to play one of this yet but I was wondering
    what the difference in price was between the D10 vs D20. Are they
    identical units except for the D20 having a sequencer ?

Peter -

I just purchased the D110 rack mount version. Haven't had a chance to
use it much yet as I am waiting for my studio rack. I have tried the
D10 out. I love the factory demo. The drums sound ok. The factory
patches seemed just as bad as the D50. Come on after market D10/110
patches. Maybe we can create and market some? Trade? The D50/550
RAM cards are mechanically and electrically compatible, but the
patch information is not.

1409.3To patch or not thats the question!UTROP1::VDBOSFri May 27 1988 09:4734
    I am not alone!!!!

    <D10 vs D20>

    Rick,

    The difference between the D10 and D20 is, I hope I recall correctly,
    the sequencer. The prive difference here in Holland is Dfl. 585,-.
    This is Dfl. 2430,- for the D10 and Dfl. 3015,- for D20. I purchased
    the D10 instead of the D20 because I think the PRO24 software and
    an Atari 1040 ST together with the D10 has a lot more to offer.
    It is just more easy to operate working from a screen than working
    with little buttons and a small multi functional screen. But that
    is for you to decide.

    Good luck!

    <D110>

    Dave,

    Congratulations with your D110! Although I tried to make some patches
    of my own I haven't got to much experience yet. But i'd love to
    anticipate in marketing patches together with others. I wonder can
    patches for the D50 be adjusted for the D10/110?? Another question
    is can the Ram cards be used for the D10/110 and I mean not the
    256 K but the smallers???

    To patch or not to patch thats the question!

    Regards,

    Pete

    Pete,
         I don't know what the exchange rate is between Holland and
    the U.S, but if my math is right it looks like the D20 is 25%
    more than the D10. In the U.S I believe the D10 is $1295.00 so
    that would put the D20 at just above $1595.00. I have just started
    getting into MIDI so I'm not sure if I should buy a keyboard with
    a sequencer as part of it or buy one as a separate unit.
    I think I'll ask the commusic noters for some help in this area
    before I make up my mind. I want to use this (sequencer) for "live"
    performances. Any advise you or anyone else might add would be
    appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rick L.

    really depends on how much you want to sequence in your performance,

    AND, how long it takes to load new info in could be a factor too.

    Hi there,
    		I've just bought a D10 and a PG10 Programmer and I'm
    		beginning to find my way around both of them. At first
    	sight the PG10 seems to make the job of tweeking the on board
    	sounds of the D10 a lot more like the old analogue synths.
    	Iwould be interested in forming a users conference so that
    	patches could be swapped etc., also to exchange info on using
    	the D10 with sequencers for instance.
    	All information gladly received :-)

Mike,

I think you'll find that this conference contains facts and opinions
(what's the difference - all of *my* opinions are facts :-) ) on all
sorts of topics which will/may/won't interest you.

If you want something more UK specific, there is a conference on
SUBURB::MUSICIANS_UK which overlaps with this and other conferences
a bit, but is a good source of UK-based info. It's quite a new conference,
so another noter would be especially welcome.

Cheers,

Derek (Warrington - you know, the frozen North :-) )
1409.8editors for the D10?OASS::B_MCMILLANFri Apr 28 1989 18:1523
    	Add my name to the list of happy D10 owners. I picked up one mail
    order a couple of weeks ago from Rolls Music, $899 (no shipping
    costs, no tax!).

    	I am now looking for a editor/librarian to run from a pc clone
    with the Voyetra interface. I looked at the Dr. T's D110 editor
    and found that (after getting mixed answers on if it worked with
    the D10) that the midi implementation if different between the two
    units and will not function completely on the D10. Dr. T's is
    not sure if they will be making an editor specifically for the
    D10.

    	I also found an editor from a company in Canada called Sound
    Quest. After talking with someone there, it seems that it does
    everything I would want (i.e. mouse interface, hercules compatible,
    editor/librarian). Has anyone out there ever seen or used this
    program or anything from Sound Quest?

    thanks..........Bruce
