1357.0. "Theme from St. Elsewhere" by SUBSYS::ORIN (Reach out and touch someone) Thu May 05 1988 21:16

I am trying to obtain a copy of the "Theme from St. Elsewhere". I would
like to buy a record or tape that has the complete piece on it. Also,
anybody know who the composer is and where to get more of his stuff? Thanks
for any info. John Campbell played some original pieces at the Roland
Clinic and said that he was influenced by the same composer. It's the type
of original music I would like to work on; sort of New Age with structure
and nice melody and chord changes.

Usually the name of the composer of the theme music appears in the credits.
You might need to tape it on your VCR and play back in slo-mo to catch it.

I saw a book of sheetmusic at Strawbewwies that consisted of nothing
but TV themes. The theme to "St. Elsewhere" may have been in it...

Speaking of TV themes, has anybody else listened closely to the
drum track of the "LA Law" theme by Mike Post? Whoooaaaa....

I think Edd got it. I went to Rock'n Mania records in Framingham last night
and it turns out that apparently Mike Post did St. Elsewhere, LA Law, Hill
St. Blues, and others. That may not be totally accurate, but anyway I ordered
a CD that has all of his tv themes on it. This type of music combines a
sequenced background with arpeggiation, traditional instrument sounds, and
nice lead lines for sax or synth. This is what I am going to be working on
for original music ideas. Sort of New_Age_Fusion_Jazz_Rock_Funk_Synth.
Anybody got an acronym for that? NAFJRFS doesn't make it. 8^))
The music that John Campbell played combined mostly the S550, MKS20, and D50.
He also used the MT32 extensively. I'm planning on getting a D110 in future.
I'm in the process of selling my S50 and getting an S550 thru Eddie at
Wurly's. The traditional instruments such as drums, bass, percussion, sax,
strings, and some f/x reside on the S550 with its 64 different samples. The
MKS20 is used for piano, elec. piano, and vibes. The D50 is used for synth and
f/x lead lines. The D110 will also provide percussion and MIDI stacking. The
sound thru TOA 38s and TOA bass bins was beautiful! I'm sure there are plenty
of other great speakers that would sound at least as good.

Thanks for the help. BTW, what is GRP?

dave

ps. Edd, I saw the CD "Aliens Ate My Buick" with Thomas Dolby. There were
some really neat song titles and art work. Is the album any good?

I picked it up a couple days ago but haven't had a chance to listen
    to it yet.

Mike post did do LA Law (I was impressed so much with the drumming
that I made a point to find out) and HSB, which I have the sheet
music for and a rahther spiffy sequence of...

Dave Grusin wrote it, according to the liner notes on Night Lines
(GRP) the CD that it originally appeared on. It also, as previosly
noted, appears on the GRP Live CD.
