1144.0. "Music Education" by PLAYA::MERLIN () Thu Jan 14 1988 14:31

    Hi guys:

Anybody out there have taken some of Berklee courses. I'm looking
forward to take some correspondence courses. I wrote this letter
to Norman Silver at Berklee College of Music and I'm waiting for
    an answer. Some inputs?

    Thanks

I would like to know more about the correspondence courses. I would
appreciate information on how to obtain a catalog. If you could
also explain a little about it, that would be great.

Orlando -

I've taken the Berklee guitar series course. It is excellent. Unfortunately,
I haven't had time to complete it. I also have the Jamie Aebersold (sp?)
saxophone course with backup combo records, charts for all instruments, etc.
which I got from Boston Music.

good luck,

Dave

    To _David_in_C_major_:

I don't have with me the source, but it's somewhere in the Keyboard
Magazine of this month. Don't worry, I'll get it for you.

    Dave:
Could you elaborate a little more on your Guitar courses. Did
you take it by correspondence. How is the curriculum? If you took
them in the site, how's the it?

I have the Berklee Series Guitar course entitled "A Modern Method for Guitar".
It is a 3 volume set by William G. Leavitt. It is published by Berklee Press
Publications, 1140 Boylston St., Boston, Mass., USA. I purchased the course
from Boston Music store by mail. I also have a piano course by John Mehegan
who is/was an instructor in jazz improvisation at Juilliard School of Music
in New York. This is a 4 volume set consisting of...

Vol. 1 Tonal and Rhythmic Principles, preface by Leonard Bernstein
Vol. 2 Jazz Rhythm and the Improvised Line, preface by Harold Arlen
Vol. 3 Swing and Early Progressive Piano Styles, preface by Horace Silver
Vol. 4 Contemporary Piano Styles, preface by Tom Glazer

These books are published by Watson-Guptill Publications, New York.
Exclusive distributor AMSCO Music Publishing Co., 33 West 60th Street,
New York 10023.

If you already have a solid foundation in music theory, I don't see how an
instructor can help you by mail. I suggest that you get in touch with
Boston Music Company, 116 Boylston, Boston Mass. (617) 426-5100. Ask them
to send you a self-study course catalog.

buena suerte,

Dave

Any comments on this course? Anyone ever hear of this approach before?

Education" to be more general) /Mitch

Introduction to Dalcroze Course #04-02
Instructor: Lisa Parker
Through movement, singing, and improvising we will experience Dalcroze
Eurhythmics, an approach to music education based on the premise that
rhythm is the primary element in music and that the source for musical
rhythm may be found in the natural rhythms of the human body. The
integration of cognitive, affective and kinesthetic processes which takes
place in eurhythmics leads the student towards greater confidence,
self-awareness, imagination, and expressivity.
