1071.0. "Casio RA3 RAM Cartridge for CZ101 Sought" by ECADSR::SHERMAN (Correct as always, King Friday ...) Wed Dec 16 1987 17:17

Anybody have an old RA-3 RAM module I could buy for my CZ-101?
    Or, any recommendations? Thanks!

By the way, the reason I'm looking for a RAM module (a cheapie
32-voice cartridge, would rather not have to go for the $50, 64-voice
jobber) is because I've found that I *cannot* do a system dump
from/to my CZ-101 to/from my QX-5. Why? Because Casio requires
waiting inbetween F0 and F7 in a system-exclusive message, and
Yamaha requires no such waiting. More than that, the QX-5 is
incapable of doing any waiting between F0 and F7 in the sysex
message. Aaaargh! Of course, I could be wrong, so feel free
to correct if you know a workaround (besides dumping each byte
one at a time). It's no good trying to keep my system alive via
batteries 'cause my little boy likes to turn it on and off. So,
within a few days the batteries are dead in spite of APO.

Oh, well. If I have to, I saw a RAM offered in the latest
    KEYBOARD for about $50 (64-voice). But, naturally I wouldn't
make a move without consulting you 'experts' ...

2 Things I don't understand here. What is waiting, or do you just
mean a timed lapse. If so, how have you tried to make this work o
    the QX5. (I own both a QX5 and CZ1000, although I have never done
SYSEX dumps from the CZ Because I have never needed to. I have run
it without batteries for the last 2 years or so and have never lost
    a patch yet ?

I jus haddit here in frunna me...

I know you can get the 64-memory cartridge for less than $50. I bought
one last year for $39. I just had an order sheet from a company called livewire
(they advertise in Keyboard's classifieds) that was selling a blank 64-cartridge
for $39 as well. Look aroun'.

1071.4gettin' ready to do COMMUSIC IVECADSR::SHERMANCorrect as always, King Friday ...Thu Dec 17 1987 17:158
Well, I checked in a few recent KEYBOARDS and didn't find under
about $50 for a 64-cart. And, I've called Acton music to see what
they had. They are selling RA-3's for $39.98 and a '4-bank' cart
for $59.99. If I understood correctly, the 4-bank cart can hold
128 voices. It has two switches on it that get flipped before you
power up. Maybe I'll give Shane a call ...

1071.5Checking with my ol' buddy Shane ...ECADSR::SHERMANCorrect as always, King Friday ...Fri Dec 18 1987 12:5510
I gave Shane a call about cartridges. He sells the RA-3 for $39,
too. So, pricewise, there's no difference between getting the cart
from Acton Music or from Shane. However, Shane indicated that he
knew some guys that had some 'heavy-duty' CZ patches that he might
be able to copy onto the cart before sending it to me. He's also
checking into whether the TZ string patch used on the Yamaha sound
sheet where they demo'd their wind controller is available. I'll
    post results ...

1071.6finally settled on a cartECADSR::SHERMANNo, Rodney. That's *old* science! ...Thu Feb 11 1988 12:247
Well, I finally decided to ge with Maartists Music Pack CZ. It's
    a 64-voice, 4-bank cart going for $39.95. It'll have a 10-year
lifetime and includes 16 patches. Looks like the best deal I've
seen so far. If anybody else has interest, their number is
    (404) 623-1559.
