953.0. "Roland S220 Rackmount Multi-Sampler" by PILOU::MULELID (Nicely out of tune.) Thu Sep 17 1987 16:37

    After Dan started to talk about the MKS-100 was dropping in price,
    I thought that it might be nice to have a second sampler that could
    use the same sound library as the S-10 I already have. Problem was
    that in France it seem like the price would not drop any more than
    it already had, and anyway the MKS-100 was no longer available at
    the importer.

    So I was wanting to get one but it is not possible. So then what
    else do you excpect a midiot to do when he walks in to his local
    Roland midi center and finds right infront of his eyes a S-220
    costing less than the MKS-100 did when it arrived. Anyway the
    S-220 is in my car and the owners manual is right here on my desk.

    It looks almost the same as the MKS-100 whith some small changes.
    There are now two inputs on the front (one line and one mic), and
    also a limiter.

    It is not as I excpected able to hold more than 4 samples (I think)
    because the sampling structures are the same as S-10/MKS-100. It
    is however 16 voice polyphonic compared to 8 voice. Also you have
    a multi mode that allows you to play the four samples in memory
    from four different MIDI channels each four voice polyphonic.
    There are also four outputs on the back of the unit giving you
    mono, stereo or four times mono outputs.

    It also have battery backup for memory, so it will remember the
    samples loaded after a power off/on.

    There may be more that differs from MKS-100, but I have not read
    the whole manual yet. Any questions I will try to answer.

    Svein.

    Yeah, how much? Do I understand you got it in France? Anyone know
    of a price for one of these in the states?
953.2As normal cant tell US price.PILOU::MULELIDNicely out of tune.Thu Sep 17 1987 20:4812
    Yes I got it in France, and as normal I would not even want to guess
    a price in the US. The MKS-100 now sells for (if you can get it)
    FF 7500 and the S-220 FF 8500. $1 is about FF 6.

    I found one new feature in the S-220, with aftertouch you can make
    a sample pan from one side to the other.

    It also states that the sample can be sendt via MIDI to other S-10,
    MKS-100s or to the MC500 with the new software.
