802.0. "CD-ROM based sound library" by FLOWER::JASNIEWSKI () Fri May 15 1987 12:29

    	As predicted (somewhere), I've just seen a CD-ROM based sound
    library of samples in my latest copy of "Music Technology"...

    	Yes, soon every sound in *your* album collection will be at
    your disposal for your composing pleasure! (Just have to wait till
    you can blast your own CDs though...but dont blink!)

    	Just as the computer is "worthless" without the programmer,
    the new tools becoming available are worthless without the musician.
    Therefore, a musician is still a musician, if he can make do even
    *entirely* with optical storage, digital signal processing chips
    and artificial intelligence.

    	The new wave is upon us. There's a kid out there, he's about
    16 now and thinks "differently" about an approach to music. His
    parents are filthly_rich. In under 10 years, he's going to blow
    us away, with things we've never heard, that "cant be done", etc.

    	So, whose mixed-in pre-recorded sounds with their music? I can
    think of two "groups": Zappa and the Beatles.

    	"The present day composer refuses to die!" - Edgard Varese,
    July 1921.

    	Whomever figures out where I got this quote gets a cookie!

    You got it from Edgard Varese.

    Where's my cookie?

802.3The Present Day Pachuco Refuses to DieAQUA::ROSTBut are they friendly spirits?Wed May 20 1987 15:085

    I suppose you meant off the liner of one of Zappa's albums...it's
    on Freak Out, aint it? and in a mutant form on Ruben and the Jets?

    What kind of cookie and did Edd eat it yet?

    	You're closer (very, very warm!) than he, but still no dice!

802.6It's On the Big ThreeAQUA::ROSTBut are they friendly spirits?Wed May 27 1987 13:2510
     Well, it's not in *my* copy of "Hot Rats"...

     So I went and checked out my records...

     OK, the quote appears on the liners of "Freak Out", "Absolutely Free"
     and "We're Only In It For The Money". On "Ruben and the Jets" it is
     rephrased as "The present day Pachuco refuses to die" and is
     attributed to Ruben Sano.

     Is the cookie stale now?
