537.0. "Simmons goes belly-up" by BARNUM::RHODES () Fri Oct 10 1986 14:10

Good news for all those who can't stand "that_Simmons_sound"...

I called Daddy's today to get a rough price of the SDS8/MIDI converter
just released by Simmons. I was told by Daddy's that Simmons is currently
going through the motions of filing for bankrupcy.

What did Simmons and Linn have in common? They both manufactured non-MIDI
products (Simmons until just recently). They were both non-Japanese. Could
it be that the lack of MIDI was the major contributor to the demise of both
of these companies? Could it be that the Japanese competition destroyed them?
Both?

is Rolaha laughing?

537.1Daddy's should go out of business!BARNUM::RHODESFri Oct 10 1986 19:238
Politics at work. I just called Wurlitzers. Simmons is still in business
and doing very well. Seems they dropped Daddy's as a dealer though. Daddy's
was doing some things that Simmons didn't like (selling stuff about $50 over
dealer cost). So the natural thing was for Daddy's to tell me that Simmons
was going out of business. Daddy's is a bunch of LIARS. I will never set foot
in one of their stores again as long as I live...

Wurlitzer is right there on Newbury street right by the sign. I do remember
that the building is(was?) under construction though, maybe they moved?

>Did you see Philip Glass and Lou Reed on Nam June Paik Goodbye Mr. Kipling

No, but I did see Philip Glass on Saturday Night Live about a year or so ago.
Francis Ford Coppola (sp?) was the guest and invited him on the show...

    Wurlitzers is on Newbury St. in the building on the corner of Mass

    Wurlitzers is up one half floor from street level. There is scaffolding
    all over the building and the stairs and doorway are somewhat hidden
    beneath it all; try walking on the other side of the street.

    By the way, I don't know where "Wurlizter" is :-) .
