383.0. "How Do We Mail The Tape?" by DYO780::SCHAFER (Brad (aka Dr. Fingers)) Tue Jun 10 1986 15:55

Hey - my tape deck is gonna be under the knife for the next week or so.
    Tape carriage bit the dust.

I have one tape of the master completed. The 2nd 90 minute tape is
still in progress. Should I go ahead and send out the first tape that
I have done, or wait until the set is complete?

Vote one way or the other. Whichever way wins is what gets done (is
    that good English?).

    Cast your vote NOW!

383.2Might as well mail tape 1BIZET::ARNOLDJohn E. ArnoldTue Jun 10 1986 16:544
Mailing it now would at least get us started. That sounds like a
    reasonable thing to do.

I think it would be a real bear to track where each of the now TWO
tapes is, and who gets which tape next...

We've waited a while, and I would rather get both tapes together
than post 'listening reviews' of Tape A, and read the 'liner notes'
of only tape A... then go thru the whole process again for tape
    B. Incredible confusion unless we go to a parallel topics scheme...

    I vote WAIT.

Is the deck gonna be fixed in the next few weeks for sure? If a
new part needs to be ordered, could repair potentially be delayed
    even longer?

If there are gonna be further delays, we might as well pass around
the first tape. If it looks like a definite fix within two weeks
or so, we might as well wait.

Any guess as to how long the wait will be?

If the deck is not likely to be fixed before the first tape
finishs making its rounds, I suggest sending the first tape
    out now.

Any other opinions? If not, I'll go ahead and assemble (compile?) the
liner notes and get MASTER1.1 ready to ship. MASTER1.2 will ship after
I get my tape deck back and Dennis finally gets me his tape 8-).

I do wonder, though, how we'll work the logisitics of this. Perhaps we
should have a note dedicated to tape reception - i.e., "I got the
master today", or "I mailed the master to ____ today" so we can track
the stuff. Never trust the mail.

A note dedicated to tracking sounds like a good idea. Could
    even contain reviews.

Sort of like 'I received Tape 1 in the mail today. I haven't
had a chance to listen to it yet.' Next entry 'I listened to
side one tonight. It's wonderful, especially John Smith's duet
for accordian and sitar.' Etc. 'Ok, I packed up the tape and
    sent it to Mary Jones.'

A running log like this would make it clear where the tape was
and what was happening. Perhaps there should be one note per tape
so as to avoid the confusion of multi-threading?

Ship it! (Send out the first tape, I mean.)

Run one note per tape to track it.

Run one note per tape for comments/reviews/assaults/etc., don't
mix "Where is it?" with "What'd you think of it" - the former is
fact, the latter opinion and subject to all the thrills of noterdom
opinion-mongering. We'll never be able to figure out where the
tape is once the "discussions" of content get started.

In particular, I expect to copy the tape as soon as I get it so
as to get it on the road again as soon as possible, and that'll
give me more time to "savor" it and provide some better than "shot
    from the hip" comments.
