271.0. "Help on Electronic Pianos?" by AKOV68::EATON () Thu Mar 13 1986 14:00

    Can anyone give me a recommendation on a good low-priced electronic
    piano? I am looking for something with some variety of voices -
    a rhodes, acoustic, perhaps some more colorful settings with detuning,
    etc. I have looked at the YAMAHA CP25 and the SEIL PX and they
    seemed pretty good. Any word on these and others? I was thumbing
    through the WANT ADvertiser and saw a SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS PINAO
    FORTE. It seemed like an older model and said "Great for beginners".
    Anyone seen that model?

    I want velocity sensitivity, but can live without weighted action
    to keep the price down.

271.1Check Out the YAMSMINDER::KENTThu Mar 13 1986 15:2513
    You could check out your local Music stores to see if they are selling
    of Yamaha pf-10 or 15s of cheap. These have now been superseded
    by the MIDI'd PF70 and 80.

    Over here in the U.K. you can pick them up for about 350 pounds.
    I think they have everything you want except the detune facility.

    Having said all that I played a (PF70 800 pounds)the other day and
    have already started saving the cash. You can't beat a good quality
    set of keys!

    Where is AKOV68?

    I've got both a CP30 and a Rhodes Stage 73 that I'd like to get
    rid of.

    CP30 is in very good condition; Rhodes has never been out of the house.

    (BTW - CP30 has weighted keys, and very nice feel.)

271.3New digital pianos?OZONE::DAVISThu Mar 13 1986 16:0118

    I'm not a keyboard player myself, but one of the guys I play with
    is looking to replace his old ARP electronic piano with something
    cleaner and more portable. He's been talking about several companies
    (Ensoniq, Roland and I think Korg) that are all coming out with
    new electric pianos using digital samples in ROM for the piano
    sounds. The cheapest is the Ensoniq which would have several "piano
    type" sounds, split MIDI keyboard, and wooden, weighted keys at about
    $1000 (not sure of that price but that's what I remember). Prices
    go up from there with the Roland being the most expensive. I'm not
    sure if that fits in with your idea of "low-priced" but you might
    want to at least check into these before buying.
    BTW, my friend will be selling his ARP as soon as he gets the Ensoniq.
    If your interested in the ARP and not in a hurry to get a piano
    you could send me mail and I'll put you in touch him.

    RE .1

    What does 350 pounds translate to in US Dollars?
    Anyone else know of pf15's selling around the Eastern Mass area?

    RE .2

    What are the differences between the CP30's and the CP35's?

    		Thanks for the help,

    re.4

    Who knows what 350 pounds is in dollars. It has always been a bone
    of contention in the U.K. that although the rate may vary at any
    one time from 1.05 to 1.45 as it is now. That anything that we import
    or even build ourselves still seems to sell at the 1 to 1 pound
    for dollar rate in the U.S. Still I suppose that's the penalty for
    being an Island. I suggest that this means if you dig around that
    you should get a pf10 for under $400.

    I have a CP25 for sale if you're still interested. It's in mint
    condition - rarely played and never gigged. I can be reached at
    223-9862.
