 	Address
Phone Numbers (include 800 numbers if possible)
Payment policies (COD, plastic?, shipping costs, etc)

In the price quote note, there was a pretty good price ($650) listed
for a Roland D-5 at Sam Ash. But there wasn't any indication of
where Sam Ash is or how to contact them. Is this someone's local
store? Mail order?

We're getting another D-5 for our project and I'd like to see if
we can get a better price for it than last time, when we were buying
at peak season. Could someone please give an address and phone
number for Sam Ash?

Thanks,

    Re: .7, Union Music

Union has closed their electronics service department (guitar work is
still done). What used to be the drum room is now RMI, an electronics
repair firm. They will be doing warranty work for Union-sold gear.
Union will pay a $20 rush fee on any gear bought there which is brought
to RMI for service. Despite being next door, Union will *not* drop off
or pick up items for service.

RMI does *not* take plastic, cash or check only (I was told I was the
first person to ask to pay by plastic; "Musicians don't have credit
cards"!!). Estimates $35 *up front*. Service is $55/hr on digital
synths. You will *not* be allowed to talk with the techs, period.

    Phone is 508-753-2308.

Is RMI affiliated with Union somehow???

Considering the praise I got from Steve when I brought my MKS-30 in
for repair ("I wish all the customers did this much
troubleshooting..."), it's likely to be a cold day (or I'm real
desperate) before I'll leave a synth with someone who won't talk to
    me...

    FYI

Just thought I'd fill you in a little on RMI.
RMI is owned and controlled by a cat named Bill Ryan. He was
located in Charlton for over a year and decided to move to Worcester
for a few reasons. He does not just do repair work for Union he has
been doing dealer warranty work for many music stores all over New
England. Bill has a very good reputation in the music biz. For the last
few years he has been a studio design consultant all over the east
coast. Also to his credit he was chief engineer at Longview. He now has
a total commitment to the repair work business, both in quality and
    turn_around time.

6.31Not a fan of RMI's or WUrly'sCSG002::ROACHTeenage Mutant Ninja MarketeersMon Aug 06 1990 01:4625
This may be the wrong note for this comment. But here goes,

In early July, I took a TOA keyboard amp that I purchased at Wurlitizer's back
for service. After 4 weeks there, I finally got a call that it was ready.
After paying a $96.00 bill for service, I learned that they sent it to RMI for
repair.

When I got home with the amp, it had not been fixed. Nothing had changed. I
took it back to Wurlitzer where they proceed to blame the whole mess on RMI.
When I indicated that I was doing business with them and not RMI and that I
wanted my money back, you would have thought I was the most unreasonable
person on the planet. The store manager said he would call me last saturday
with an explanation.

That was a week ago. The amp is back at RMI, I suspect. I do have a credit on
my VISA card for Wurly's. I have not heard from Wurly's. I have no idea when I
will see my amp.

If you were looking for an agreement with the last not about RMI, you won't
get it here. I'm certainly not a fan of Wurly's either at this point.

Next time, I go mail order. Forget this stuff about the benefits of local
service.

Sorry to hear you had such bad luck, but my experience with EUW has
been consistently positive. My M-216 is in being serviced right now,
and when my MC-500 upgrade board wouldn't work they took care of it
    expeditiously.

I was in Boston yesterday, 8/14, and had some time to kill. I drop by
LaSalle's on Boylston Street, only to find the store vacated, with a
legal notice on the door indicating that the landlord was proceeding
assuming the store was abandoned. Anyone know the lowdown on this? Was
this covered in another note that I missed?

I went around the corner to Wurly's, and found them gone too!
Fortunately, they just moved down Mass ave next to the Christian
Science Church. Picked up a demo AKG C525 mic for $40. Not bad. Looked
good on the spectral analyzer in the lab too.

When was the last time you went to LaSalle's? Were you at the old

"doing inventory", eh? Kinda like "Hey, Fred, how many D50s we got in
the truck? Can we load up these last three?" ;^) Actually, I was in
Boston recently, too. Went into Boston Music Company 'cause my wife
was looking at choir music for church. I wandered into the instruments
section. Saw keyboards with dust on 'em looking used with high price
tags. Saw that Yamaha Quick Disk MIDI dump thingie going for something
around $400 (!). Yup. Some real bargains there ... ;^)

6.38RMI Seems OK, But Be Prepared To WaitAQUA::ROSTMahavishnu versus MotormouthFri Aug 24 1990 14:0718
    Re: .28, RMI

I got my keyboard back from RMI. My verdict: mixed. It took a while
before it got looked at (almost 3 weeks) but from the day they opened
it up to make an estimate to having it in my hands was seven days,
including the time it took to get a board shipped out from Ensoniq.

Despite what I was told initially about talking to the techs, the
secretary herself had me talk to them the times I called in.

I would say that the $20 rush charge would be worth it if you don't
want to wait, apparently they are doing service for a number of
dealers, so the queue for stuff to get looked at seems pretty deep.
If I hadn't been on vacation for a week, the three week wait for an
estimate would have been a major pain.

6.39looking for YAMAHA dealer in or around NashuaPAULUS::BAUERRichard - ISE L10N Center FrankfurtWed Nov 28 1990 10:0415
    Hi folks !

A colleague of mine will be in Nashua next week and he's willing to buy
some cards for the YAMAHA TG55 for me. Is there any YAMAHA dealer one
could recommend in Nashua or near by, alternatively in Boston. Does
anyone know which one of those has the cards on stock (there has
recently been a large YAMAHA ad on those, so I assume some dealers must
have them) or how long it takes to order them ?

I have heard of Ted Herbert in Manchester and one in downtown Nashua,
but don't have a name, but it's not Daddy's or any one of those
    mentioned in here.

    	thanks a lot in advance
6.40Darryl's Music HallFULCRM::PICKETTDavid - Brahms Berman Requiem?Wed Nov 28 1990 12:506
The downtown Nashua store is Darryl's Music Hall. They deal Yahama
pianos (the REAL ones, you know Grands and Uprights) and consumer
keyboards. At the last check, they didn't carry the full line of synth
gear. This may have changed tho...

Heavy into Roland and Korg. The only authorized dealer for Kawai

things like the Korg p3/O3 , Brother sequencers, etc.

      They take plastic/do mailorder.

6.44Wurlitzer's Gets Boston Ensoniq FranchiseAQUA::ROSTDrink beer: Live 6 times longerTue Dec 04 1990 16:3210

EU Wurlitzer in Boston is now handling Ensoniq products. The other
stores (Framingham and Worcester) can't sell them due to franchise
restrictions (i.e. Union in Worcester). This fills the gap left when
La Salle went under. Now who's going to grab the Yamaha franchise?

BTW Sam Ash has also added on the Ensoniq line.

This note worked out well for me, Thanks all.

I quoted around the Casio CPS-700 and Roland EP-7, got the best prices
from Manny's and Washington Music Center: bought the CPS-700 from Wash.
    for $515. plus $15. shipping.

other guys: Casio CPS-700	Roland EP-7

    Manny's 515*
    Wash. 515* 700
    Sam Ash 625
    Acton 999
    East Coast 659
    Daddy's 750
    Rhythm City 695 795

Was told the CPS-700 dealer cost is $480. Also, there's a new one, the
    -720, which is a -700 w/ a dust cover.

    * Manny's _quoted_ this price, with no dickering; I had to bargain w/
Wash. to get the same deal. I did have a warmer feeling about Wash.
    though.

They appear to also do business as Goldman's Gear Exchange and
The Musician's Survival Store. Or maybe these are just slogans or
    departments.

They seem to do a large business in used equipment, both buying and
    selling.

Possibly a startup or small operation; however service is very friendly
and this guy will deal. I have made preliminary contact RE: DECMS,
indicating I would have someone else speak with him. He gave me the D4
for $350, lowest according to Usenet and my own extensive phone
research. I'm sure if Brad talked with him, we could get special
quotes. Me always in favor of the underdog, let's try this guy out and
see if he can move what we want to buy...

I've always spoken to the same guy, "Jerry." He's willing to deal and seems to
be a pretty straight shooter- he even talked me out of a piece of gear!
