    Since we seem to be getting a bunch of folks using DECw Notes to
    contribute to the conference ...

    Please remember that people on VTs are normally limited to 79
    character-wide screens; 80 or more makes a diamond ... in other words, this .....
    Any characters past the diamond are lost (unless the VT'er jumps
    thru some hoops). Use the auto-fill key (GOLD 8 in EVE EDT) to
    fill your paragraphs.

    Also, please try to keep topic and reply titles fairly short (less than
    70 characters or so). Titles with multiple lines or that are extra
    long end up exhibiting the diamond syndrome (mentioned above), or have
    imbedded linefeed <LF> characters. Not pleasant for VT'ers to read.

    Thanks for your continued support.

1.3Conference now KEYWORDed!DYO780::SCHAFERBrad - boycott hell.Fri Sep 08 1989 20:2310
   Well, it's finally done. I've gone thru the whole conference and
   assigned keywords to *every* base note.

   You are *strongly* encouraged to read the next few topics, as they
   detail and discuss keywords in this conference. A little reading up
   front will save us both a lot of time in the future.

    As always, gripes/suggestions should be posted in topic 14.

1.4KEYWORD Assignment and RestrictionsDYO780::SCHAFERBrad - boycott hell.Fri Sep 08 1989 20:2526
KEYWORD ASSIGNMENT CRITERIA
---------------------------

   Here are the details concerning keywords in the COMMUSIC conference:

     o	a predefined set of keywords was used for consistency

     o	keyword *creation* has been disabled - members may
 	still add keywords to topics

     o	ONLY base notes have keywords assigned

     o	PLEASE do not assign keywords to topics other than
 	the base topic (.0)

 	Replies with keyword pointers are often confusing. If
 	a topic becomes tangential, I will retitle the topic or
 	assign an appropriate keyword to the base note. This
 	will allow future 'Directory by Topic' software to work
 	properly.

     o	keyword names follow the same convention as conference
 	base note titles (no hyphens, no 8 bit characters)

     o	topics 20-300 may or may not have keywords assigned;
 	only topics with relevant information were tagged
1.5How To Use KEYWORDsDYO780::SCHAFERBrad - boycott hell.Fri Sep 08 1989 20:2738
USING KEYWORDS
--------------

    To use keywords to access a topic, use the following commands:

SHOW KEYWORD keyword /FULL

    This displays the keyword and all base note numbers associated with the
    keyword.

SHOW KEYWORD key* [/FULL]

    This displays all keywords beginning with a portion of the keyword (use
    /FULL for note number display). For example, SHOW KEYWORD SEQU* will
    display:

      SEQUENCER
      SEQUENCES
      SEQUENCING
      SEQUENTIAL

    If a keyword does not exist, use wildcards and an abbreviated keyword
    (DX7* instead of DX7IIFD).

DIRECTORY /KEYWORD=keyword [note-range]
DIRECTORY /KEYWORD=key* [note-range]

    This displays all topics in the note range associated with the given
    keyword (wildcards are allowed). For example, to view recent notes
    about YAMAHA equipment, use the command DIRECTORY /KEYWORD=YAMAHA
    2000-LAST.

+---

    For more information, see the next reply. For a complete list of
    keywords, see the list of keywords in the conference directory topic
    (2.0).

1.7COMMUSIC is moving this weekend!DYPSS1::SCHAFERName something that floats.Wed Feb 19 1992 19:4921
    COMMUSIC as we know and love it will be shut down this Friday afternoon
    around 5pm EST.

    The old conference will be write-locked, renamed to COMMUSIC_V1, and
    moved to node IMDOWN (4.210).

    A new COMMUSIC conference will be opened, also on node IMDOWN; it will
    retain the name COMMUSIC.

    To ensure that your SEEN map is not hosed, you should issue the
    following commands AFTER 5pm Friday:

        Notes> MOD ENTRY COMMUSIC /NAME=COMMUSIC_V1 /FILE=IMDOWN::COMMUSIC_V1
        Notes> ADD ENTRY IMDOWN::COMMUSIC

    In spite of recent developments, the conference charter/scope will not
    change. Thanks for your continued support.
