1033.0. "Green Card?" by KAOFS::B_CROOK (Brian @KAO) Wed Apr 30 1997 18:30

    The USA used to offer a lottery for green cards which allow you to work
    in the States, anyone know if they still do or where I can get further
    information? Anyone ever obtained a green card that could answer a few
    questions?

    The card is actually white in color. A former coworker here in KAO
    partipated in a lottery 4 or 5 years ago. He was successful in his
    effort because he produced a couple of hundred applications and
    drove down to the DC area. He then seeded all the mailboxes that
    fed the post office that delivered mail to the Immigration Dpt.
    the night before the lottery. He is now working in Colorado
    somewhere and holds a card as well as his Polish passport. He
    put a lot of effort into bending the odds.

    They have since changed the rules and are allowing only one
    application, so the chances of landing a card are *MUCH* smaller.

    US embassy is the best place to start.

The lottery does not apply this year to Canadians ... (Unless you were born
in certain overseas places like Ireland, but not England) ... hasn't for
several years ...
