Saw them saturday night and was again (for the second time in three
years) both mezmerized and delighted by their performance. I'm a
pretty-jaded person when it comes to being entertained, but I was
thoroughly impressed with these folks.
This years offering is called "quarad" (I believe) and is supposed to
represent the theme of anonymity among man, lost in the crowd sort of
thing, but I couldn't see it really. The Globe & Mail called it darker
than others, but still gave it 4 stars (out of 4 I believe). The
highlight of the show were two balancers/contortionists that absolutely
had the crowd in the palms of their hands - truly breath-taking.
Highly recommended! Tickets were $35 for where we sat (approx. half
way up the seats), and really, there weren't any bad seats because for
several of the acts, the stage rotated, and for others, they were
performed above the main stage area.
Cool music too - but for $22 I'll wait till it hits the record stores
in a few weeks to look for my copy.

by the sounds of it, the 'theme of anonymity among men', seems to have
worked without you knowing it. like for instance, what did you find out
about the strangers who sat around you, within 10 feet of your own
being? you were breathing and perhaps sharing the very same air of your
neighbors, but didi you get to know any of these people? when you left
the building, did you see any frustrated drivers, ready to run over
anything, just so they could get home for the eleven o'clock news,
living in their own little bubble of reality. i don't know, but i think
that theme has pervaded much of the recent literature, pop songs, etc.,
etc., but this is only a guess.
