| Brian,
I attended Bob's "cafeteria" talk at the Toronto customer centre. He spoke
openly and honestly about the issues at hand. He said how pleased he was
about Canada's results (wishing all territories had done as well) and
mentioned Kanata's successes and likely expanding role in our manufacturing
organization.
He fielded questions freely from the audience that covered topics like
- Stock value versus actual book value (market perceptions etc)
- His personal motivation in leading Digital to recovery
- Decision criteria for de/investing in Business Units
- The future of S/W products like RDB/DBMS
- Making touch decisions, and fixing them when they're wrong
I had heard Bob speak in Hawaii, and was even more impressed by his talk
here. I feel he is the epitome of a good leader - Presentable, Articulate,
Knowledgeable about our industry, Credible and honest.
He talked about the "pain" he's felt in "excessing" many employees, and
that Digital has offered most employees "extremely fair" financial bridge
packages because it's the right thing to do.
I believe Bob was in town for other reasons and sort of "squeezed in" this
employee address. The customer centre only seats about 50-75 people and it
was so packed that there was many people overflowing into the halls at both
doors. All-in-all, a decent event.
