I'm not sure we want to see a pictogram of your most memorable experience.
Are pictures allowed?

This started out as a nice little note about taking the ferry, but now
it's just gotten silly. And a bit suspect I think....

For God sakes Ben spit the worm out of your mouth.
Ferry's travel to fast to be trolling.

Yes of course they do. Typically, you see fairies skipping rather than
strolling. They're a "happy" lot for the most part and they uuum what was
that, he said "trol" oh....never mind then.

823.11a real ferry story!!KAOOA::PINKERTONProv 3:5-6Wed Jun 22 1994 13:4021
I was strolling through this notes conference today, and it looks like
    this topic has digressed ....again!

One of my most memorable ferry trips was an unexpected one, on the way
to Baie Comeau, Que. Along the north side of the St. Lawrence R. the
highway is very picturesque. As the Saguenay (sp?) river came into
view, going down hill, the end of the road was very evident.

As we scrambled to pull out the map, we quickly learned that the map
was not as detailed as we had hoped, it showed a river but no ferry, I
assumed a bridge. As we approached a loading dock we noticed there were
signs in french telling us of this ferry. A short ferry crossing,
<.5hr but nevertheless, a memorable one. as we approached the opposite
bank, it was shrouded in fog, it was like a movie, scene as if in a
dream, with the fuzzy edges. great place to win a photo contest!!

    Any others out there??

I have to agree with you Gary. During my 3 years in Sept Iles I
travelled that highway many times. Also the Ferry at Godboot to the
south shore was interesting, we were able to see whales on some trips.
As I was leaving the frozen land they were just completing the Bridge
across the Moise River. Now you can almost drive all the way up the St
    Lawrence R. to Labrador.

823.16Not a ferry goerKAOA00::KAU138::MCGREGORFri Sep 30 1994 16:0530
I'm glad I'm not a ferry goer.

It is quite a tragic tale being told by some of the survivor's of the
Estonia.

Earlier in the day inspectors found the ferries seal around the main doors
to be in poor condition. They said that it shouldn't have any problems
with the storm, but they said that about the Titanic.

Apparently the listing was known about for 1/2 hr before finally going under.

People were quite orderly in the beginning putting on the lifeJackets and
manning life boats. Panic struck and it was every person for themselves.

The decks were laden with ice so it was quite an effort just to stand up
on a ship that is listing. It was common for people to slide into the sides
of the halls breaking legs, ankles etc.

People were being trampled. The older people were crying knowing that there
was no chance of survival.

If you were one of the lucky ones to get in a life raft it was hard to stay
in it with the ruff seas. The water was 8C. A person may have a chance at
20-30 min survival at that temperature. Somehow they did for longer periods.
901 didn't.

Perhaps people will have second thoughts before taking a ferry.
