814.1The waiting period is very long here too!POLAR::BAYNESymphony in Orange, Number 1Mon Apr 04 1994 18:2419
>>> I have also heard it is a lot easier and a lot shorter wait than in the
>>>  U.S.

The average wait for an infant is 4-6 years. I heard on
an news report recently that waits twice that long are not
uncommon. Adoption of special needs, or older childer
usually takes far less time, with the norm being 0-2 years
depending on the situation. I'm not sure if those times
jive with what your daughter would experience in the States,
but I would bet they'd be pretty close.

I've heard that adopting through private organizations can
take less time, however for someone just starting out, the
process can be prohibatively expensive. Also many private
organizations are swamped with requests, and you'd end up
doing much of the legwork yourself.

I don't want to burst your bubble but a co-worker whose two daughters
came from India and China told me:

    1- You MUST be Canadian

2- You MUST reside in the province the adoption demand is made

    child from China)

The only two people I know who have adopted in the last five years went
outside the country. One to Romainia and the other to California!!
