794.0. "Feb/94 Budget Previews/Reviews" by KAOFS::R_DAVEY (The meek SHALL inherit the earth!) Tue Feb 22 1994 13:00

    As the Cornwall note is getting pretty stale I figured it
    was time to start another topic.

    I hear Vaseline sales are booming today, I guess most are
    expecting a real good scr***ng tonight.

    I was rather surprised...no real tax increases...no real spending cuts.

    Capital gains got the axe.

    $5 in cuts for every $1 in new taxes !!! This I'll believe when I see
    it, along with the $ 40 B deficit. Any takers on this year going to
    $ 50 B ???

    Actually, I got the impression that they were deliberately being
    cautious in their forecasting. The annual cahrade of demonstrating
    that the deficit would be gone x years in the future, by playing
    dishonest games with rosy scenarios, seemed to be missing.

    I'm surprised that benefits such as dental coverage was not hit. Does
    the dental industry have a powerful gov't lobby?

    This might sound radical, but I would support a motion to drop dental
    coverage as a job benefit if it were taxed. At least if we are going to
    be robbed, let us have a choice as to which pocket they can put their
    hands in.
