| I presume you are coming from within Canada or are Canadian.
I hate to tell you, but in early July the Calgary Stampede is on and a
hotel is very hard to come by and expensive, if at all.
It is cheaper to live/rent in Calgary than Vancouver. It is high season
in both places, so nothing will be cheap or plentiful. It can also be
difficult to rent for anything less than six months - unless it is a hotel
apartment.
I would suggest that you get a local paper - Calgary Herald or
Vancouver Sun/Province and look in there for rentals.
We have deals with the Delta Bow Valley and the Sheraton Cavalier and I
think the Malborough in Calgary.

PS. Is your wife in PR or a PR (if so what is a PR?)

Thanks Linda for your kind advice. We are both coming from Hong Kong.
My wife is a Permanent Resident (PR), i.e. an emmigrant from HK. She
is considering to settle down preferable in Vancouver because the
weather in Calgary is terrible. We have no relatives nor friends in
Vancouver but we will be arriving Vancouver in mid-July.
We are eager to know the rent rates and sources for leasing apartment.
If the rents are too high that we can not afford, we can only consider
Calgary.
I would be much appreciated if you can help.

| I would pick Calgary Anyday !!! But then again, my opinion is very
biased !!! (Grew up in Calgary !!)
Rental accomadations are fairly cheap in Calgary, unfortunately, (as
Linda mentioned) arriving at Stampede is not the greatest time, to look
for rental accomadations. On adverage, rents will vary from $ 375 - $
750 for a decent, but not overpriced, two bedroom apartment. You can
definately spend more, but usually are overpriced based on location,
and facility's.
For an equivalent apartment in Vancouver with same approx. location
with respect to Downtown, look at spending another $ 200 - $ 300,
easily !!! If you wouldn't mind living outside of the Vancouver area,
(ie. Richmond, Burnaby, ...), mainly suburbs, the rents come down in
price a bit, but you still have to live with the commute !!
Calgary puts out a great listing of all rental apartments in the
Calgary area along with prices and location, which can give you a great
idea of prices and location that you are looking for. If you want to
give me your name and and internal location code, I am sure we can get
you a copy ???

| I guess it depends on your definition of "Terrible" winters. It's not
like it goes to minus 40 (Celcius) or anything like that, and Calgary
has been known to have as ice a winter (if not better) as Vancouver.
I dont mind the winter, mainly because I Love Skiing !!! If you love to
ski, then Calgary is the place to be for winters, and you really do get
used to it !!! Although I do understand wanting to spend your winters
in Vancouver !!!
