585.0. "Montreal and Southern Ontario ... " by BCVAXB::SUNDARI () Tue Jun 23 1992 17:56

Me and my freinds plan to visit Canada in the first week of
      July(1st-5th).
We plan to enter Canada near Montreal and drive thru to Toronto
and enter back into US near Nigara Falls.
       I need the following info:

           1. Cheap Motels near Metro in Montreal , Toronto and Ottawa
           2. Places to see (Museums, parks, Monuments, events etc)
           3. Present Dollar conversion rate.

I would also be interested to Know if there are any guide tours
around these cities. We are on a very tight budget, and would
be interested to know, the cheapest mode for maximum enjoyment!!

      thanks in advance

You're going to cover a LOT of ground in just a short period and
spend a lot of time on the road. Since you'll really only have a day
in each city, the cheapest accomodation is found outside the cities
and usually will not have to be reserved providing you arrive early
enough. City hotels and motels tend to be expensive and are often
    booked.

July 1 is Canada Day ... a national holiday

The Canadian Dollar is worth about 83 to 84 US cents at the moment.

In Ottawa, there are several museums, art galleries and so on,
most near downtown. The Museum of Civilization across the river in
Hull is very interesting for its aboriginal displays. Bus tours depart
from Confederation Square, outside the National Arts Centre.

In Toronto there is the Royal Ontario Museum, the CN Tower, Casa Loma
and a host of other activities ... The Eaton Centre ... a shopping
mall is worth a visit because it is quite unique as downtown malls go.
There are Bus tours which depart from most of the major downtown
    hotels.

There are other recent notes in here on Montreal and lots of other
notes on visiting Montreal and Ontario ... have a look ... then come
and enjoy the great white North (and ignore comments about the grand
canal .. it's a figment of some people's overactive imagination!)

Thanks for the info. We know that the time is short, but
we don't have a choice. That is why we dropped Quebec.

Can we get to the 'Metro' if we stay outside the city?

         Once again thank you!
