534.2Season's Greetings -- 1991KAOFS::S_BROOKTue Dec 24 1991 12:4723
    It has been brought to my attention that there are some who might
    be a little sensitive to the use of the term "Merry Christmas" in
    a Digital Notesfile, because of the fact that the very name of the
    holiday implies a particular faith and may considered to be a denial
    of the faiths of others, and as such contrary to policy.

    I am quite certain that no-one here in making such a greeting would
    wish to deny the faiths of others, so I am certain that no one will
    deny that Merry Christmas is used synonymously for Season's Greetings.
    (After all for most of us who celebrate Christmas, if the truth is
    told, most of what we actually celebrate is based on the pagan
    Festival of Winter rather than a religious festival)

    I am going to reflect the sensitivity of the subject by changing the
    topic title to reflect this situation, and hope to have a discussion
    with other moderators around Digital to determine their feelings on
    the subject.

    Anyway, to all, whatever your beliefs, may the next week be a time
    of peace, of relaxation, of enjoyment, of reflection on the year past
    and an opportunity to look forward to the challenges of the coming year.
