528.0. "Calgary-suburb of Edmonton?" by ULYSSE::DOROSH () Tue Dec 03 1991 11:50

Here in Valbonne France, they mentioned on "Riviera Radio" that Calgary
is a suburb of Edmonton... I thought that Calgary was the village
where the winter olympics were held one year.

Can someone clear me up on this matter.

    Thanks

Calgary and Edmonton are two seperate cities in the province of
Alberta. Edmonton is about 250km (just a guess) north of Calgary.

Yes, Calgary was the site of the 1988 Winter Olympics.

    re: .0

I, and all native Calgarians, are offended beyond words by the very
    idea! Ugh! Ick! Gaccckk!

    re: .1

It's more like 300 km. Calgarians wish it were further. Horrible
    place. Ugh!

How do Calgarians feel about the Grand Canal circumscribing their
    province?

    Just curious,

    Relieved.

after the influx of the "car people" in the early- to
mid-70's, the concept of "Fortress Alberta", surrounded by a
    station-wagon-proof moat holds powerful attractions.

The only trick was to convince the Eastpeoples that the moat was their
own idea, so that they would use their ill-begotten bazillions in
provinicial transfer funds to build it. This seems to have worked out
pretty well, as I understand that Eastpeoples now believe that they
have taught the uppity Albertans a thing or two.

    Hah! Foolish Eastpeoples!
