488.0. "Cruise boat Vancouver to Prince Rupert?" by DECWET::THOMAS () Fri Aug 09 1991 18:24

A friend of my father is doing the Rockies to Vancouver trip (a trip
    that I've also enjoyed).

At the Vancouver end, the friend would like to take a cruise from
Vancouver to Prince Rupert, and perhaps on to Alaska. He stipulates it
should be a small ship (150 or less passengers).

Does anybody have any recommendations that might fit? I'm aware of the
BC Ferries, but I don't think that's quite what he's looking for.
Tourism BC says there is nothing except BC Ferries, but I'm hoping
    they're wrong.

    Thanks ... Mike

150 people is awfully small; the three-masted sailing vessel I spent two
weeks on in the Caribbean had 125 passengers and a crew of 40.

All the major cruise lines operate cruises on the B.C. and Alaska coast.
Many of them are 500+ passenger ships, but others are fairly small. Contact
Alaska Sightseeing Tours (206) 441-8687, Clipper Cruise Lines (800) 326-0100,
Costa Cruises, Inc. (305) 358-7325, Cunard (212) 880-7500, Holland America
(206 281-3535, Princess Cruises (the Love Boat) (213) 553-1770, Regency
Cruises (212) 972-4499, Royal Caribbean (Miami), Royal Viking (305) 447-9660
or (800) 422-8000, Special Expeditions (New York), World Explorer Cruises
(800) 854-3835, YachtShip CruiseLine (206) 623-4245.

The Alaska Marine Highway System operates out of Bellingham, Washington,
and Prince Rupert, to Alaska. (800) 642-0066 or (907) 465-3941.

BC ferries operates between Port Hardy on Vancouver Island and Prince
Rupert. (604) 669-1211.

Also, VIA Rail has overnight sleeper service between Prince Rupert, B.C., and
Jasper, Alberta, connecting with the train between Toronto and Vancouver.
A connection to the B.C. Rail line to North Vancouver is sort of possible
in Prince George, but the schedule is not ideal.

Thanks John, that's quite a list. I'll let my fingers do the walking.
