402.0. "Driving to Ottawa!" by 11SRUS::HEWITT (Standard du jour) Thu Jan 24 1991 11:41

Next month, I will be driving to Ottawa from Southern New Hampshire. I'm
planning to drive up Interstate 89 and cross into Quebec near Burlington
Vermont. I will be connecting to the Trans-Canada highway (I think it's route
20 in Quebec) and driving to Ottawa. Does anyone have any tips on a better
route?

On a different note, what should I see/visit in Ottawa? I'm going to be there
for Canadian DECUS and would like to take in as much as possible during the
week.

Look in note 243.*, several alternative routes are described there.
Plan on a 7 to 8 hour drive.

Are you going the first week in February? Winterlude (Ottawa's winter
canival) is happening that week. I plan on going up there that week
since I've never been to Winterlude before.

Thanks for the pointer. I'm going to be there the 18th thru the 22nd. I want to
take in as much as time allows.

402.3Winterlude - Feb 2 to 10 KAOFS::LOCKYERGarryThu Jan 24 1991 16:1512
Winterlude starts on Feb 2 and runs through to Feb 10, so you'll miss it.

You'll still be able to skate on the Rideau Canal (weather permitting),
and there's many other atractions such as the National Art Gallery, the
Natianal Aviation Museum, Parliament Hill and many, many more that I think
are described somewhere in this conference.

And now I'll sit back and wait for the latest installment on the Grand Canal...

Garry

Good Day Larry,

Seen your name in a few conferneces and have been meaning to say "hello"
for several years! For the rest of you - Larry use to work for DEC Canada
in Calgary, but then decided to return to his homeland. I worked in the
Calgary office up until 1981. The Patches Larry is referring is (was?)
my first hot air balloon, but it is no longer airworthy - it flies no more.

Good to hear from you Larry and there is no way that the Grand Canal boys
along with their Twirley Whirly (sp?) friends can pass up a chance to further
their loonacy in every topic!

Regards,

Lockyer

    You're right!

However, remember you started it in this topic!

Yes, don't miss the "Idiots on Terra Rods" competition on the Grand
Canal before, during and after Winterlude. It's also know as the
Iditerod. You haven't seen whirly-twirlies 'till you've seen this! And,
YES it's only on the Grand Canal!

They'll also being promoting the local Abusement Park with a Porcupine
Petting Zoo also planned for the Grand Canal Celebrations.

    Now I feel much better.
