293.0. "Chrysler trade-in info" by FIVER::FLYNN () Tue May 08 1990 16:12

    Just curious.

Two car dealers, here in Massachusetts have mentioned that rear-wheel
drive, Chrysler New Yorkers are in high demand in Canada. We recently
inquired about trading-in our vehicle (Fifth Ave, New Yorker) and
that's what the dealer told us. Has anyone heard the same thing?

Yes, they're being used as compost bins by nomadic Calgarians.

    What are they compost of?
    re:.0
They make good sand bank reinforcement material for the GC, though we
prefer fjords. In fact, I'm sure, Pat is positively pining for the fjords.
A Fjord Mustang, or a Fjord Thunder bird would be nice.

Not that I wish to Probe this any further but, I tried to sell Pat
my Fjord Mustang but he didn't go for it. Remarkable bird the Pat
    Rushton, beautiful plumage.

I wasn't 'pining' for a Fjord Mustang, it wasn't 'spruced' up enough.
It had a heart of oak though. 'Bass-icaly', I've been 'probing' for
a Fjord that doesn't go against the grain, as it were.

Right, enough of this silliness.

Where is the world's longest fjord and what is it called?

The world's longest fjord (or fiord, your choice) is Admiralty Inlet
on the north-western tip of Baffin Island, opening onto Lancaster Sound.

And there are no Chrysler New Yorkers or Fifth Avenues there.

    to?
How long is this fjord? and how do you know its the longest fjord in
    the world?

Have you driven the fjord lately?

Hudson Bay is a pretty tremendous fjord if you ask me, and I take it as a
slight that you wouldn't consider it in all its majesty for the longest
fjord in the world. Its also the widest fjord in the world. And I,m
willing to bet it has alot more fish in it as well.

I vote for the Pacific Ocean, I think it's the biggest fjord in the
world. It used to be called the Pacific Fjord back in the early 1500's.
Columbus changed all that when he started doing whirly-twirlies on the
deck of the Santa Maria! The crew then shouted "Throw him in to the
Pacific Ocean! We won't have a Captain doing whirly-twirlies on our
ship!" And so it was that from that time on, the Pacific Fjord was
referred to as the Pacific Ocean.

I can't think of any good reason for why you should doubt that
Admiralty Inlet is the world's longest fjord. Just look at a map.

No! Turn it the other way round, Barfin Island is at the top of the

Ah, but that's only a map, it isn't actually the Admiralty Inlet.
How can I know that it's really there? Going by the map, Admiralty
Inlet is only about 2 cm long, pretty small for a fjord.

If we keep this up we'll have the originator of this topic doing
    whirly-twirlies in no time!

    Dear ARE,

We are very nice. And at no time was a pot shot taken at Americans in
this note. The original question was answered in a
roundabout-kinda-way. The answer is no ( at least out West; there is
no accounting for the taste of the downeasters ).

You see, we couldn't think of anything intelligent to say so we
decided to be silly. We weren't being nasty, we just like engaging in
    tangent discussions, it's fun!
I take it you gathered that we don't know much about Chryslers but
we do know a lot about Fjords!

Generally speaking, most of the responses of late, from the various
contributors (You know who you are) within the past few notes, are
those of persons, masquerading as Canadians.
You see, Canadians, have a much better sense of humor than those
past replies would tend to indicate. Therefore, those persons are
    not Canadians.

As a serious reply to the original note, I can't see a demand for
rear wheel drive over front wheel drive. Free trade means that you
can import used cars quite cheaply to Canada though, although I
don't know when this clause of the free trade deal will come into
    effect.

Best Regards, and I apologize for all those Fjord lovers out there.
293.23It's merely our behaviourPOLAR::RICHARDSONHe who laughs bestThu May 24 1990 17:256
I must also point out the real Canadians do not have a sense of humor
but the DO have a great sense of humour!
So contributors who talk about humor are masquerading as Canadians.
Canadians know humour when they read it.
