268.0. "Things to see/do while in Ottawa?" by AKOV12::TONINA () Fri Feb 16 1990 11:47

I am going to be in the Ottawa area on business for a few weeks in
March. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions as to:

    	- restaraunts to eat at
    	- bars to visit
    	- things you have to see/do in the area

I may also have the opportunity to spend a couple weekends in the area.
Any good ideas for a weekend trip.

Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated!

Clair de Lune is an excellent restaurant in the Byward Market area.

Hungarian Village is a very good restaurant in the downtown area.

Polonus, also near Byward market, was inexpensive and good (but not great).

CHEZ HENRI - In Hull, Quebec - across the River.

That's where a lot of <even> the anglos go after the clubs close
on the anglo side at 1.am. It's an after hours joint. It stays open
till 3.am. and it's very trendy.

Great musique, great ambiance. All the employees are multi-lingual.
A great place to practice the high school spanish, you might've
forgotten years ago. Highly recommended !

p.s. Please be nice to the Bouncers `cuz they are nice too !

After hours? Nah...all of Quebec's bars are open to 3AM (Ontario
    is 1AM).

    Club 61 in Aylmer...now THAT'S the place...remember to dress like a
biker gang though, and wear your rubber underwear.

Well the Hull bars are "after hours" in the sense that the ritual in
Ottawa is to drink on the Ontario (Ottawa) side until almost 1:00 then
head over to Hull afterwards (about a 10 minute drive from downtown)
and party til 3:00. I'll second the vote on Chez Henri for the best
    Hull bar.

Other popular Ottawa bars right now are in a cluster on Elgin St. -
Peppers, Maxwell's, and DV8. Hartwell's, Lips, and aren't too bad in the
Byward Market area. Hurley's upstairs has a good outdoor bar in the
    summer.

Some other good restaurants: Mexicali Rosa's (Mex), Lonestar Cafe (Tex
Mex), and Cafe Henri Berger for expensive French.

I second this great French Resturant; FOUR STAR service and
excellent cuisine. After all, you're on expenses are't you?
Consider a few days of fasting, then feast at the Cafe Henri
Berger!

I'm heading up to Ottawa next weekend to visit relatives, and
plan to do a lot of walking in the city. I'd like recommendations for
cafes that I can get to on foot, where they don't mind if you sit for
a while drinking coffee instead of rushing off. I'm used to walking,
so I don't mind if it's a long walk from, say, the National Gallery.

	Thanks in advance

268.15Couldn't find the lunch topic...FSCORE::HOGANThu Jun 08 1995 13:1712
Anyone know of a good/traditional "Fish & Chips" place in the Ottawa area?
You know...the kind of place where the building is a little run down, but
the food is excellent (ie, everything is deep fried, and the chips are
excellent)

I know of such a place in Port Credit, but it's a little too far to go for
lunch :)

Even closer....The Glen(n) Cafe on Hazeldene road. Maybe
not as run down as you might like, but certainly good
fish and chips, and it has that small, quaint feel to it.
