231.0. "Quebec city motels? Pas cher??" by EMILE::DESTOMBES (I_t's F_rench A_rchery A_gency) Fri Sep 22 1989 18:48

    Hi Folks,

I am going to visit Quebec beginning of October, and that for the 4th
time. But THAT will be the first time that I will be able to go to
Quebec City. I will spend a week with my friend in Hull, then I will
drive to Quebec through "Laurentides" , "Trois rivieres" and back via
    Montreal the 14th to PARIS.

We will be three or for Frenchies looking for a motel or something like
around Quebec City to spend two nights on 12th or/and 13th of October.

Don't you know some good (and not too expensive) place to go.

And what about restaurants and specialities there???

    Vincent qui dit merci.

I've received some info on Quebec City hotels. If anyone is familiar
with these hotels, I'd appreciate your comments.

    	Hotellerie Fleur de Lys
    	Hotel Le Chateau de Pierre
    	Hotel Chateau Bellevue
    	Hotel Chateau de la Terrasse
    	Hotel Le Manoir D'Auteuil
    	Hotel L'Ermitage
    	Hotel Manoir Saints-Genevieve
    	Auberge de Tresor
    	Hotel au Jardin du Gouverneur

All of the hotels are inside the walls of old Quebec. I omitted
Chateau Frontenac because of budget considerations.

    Thank you for the information!

I stayed in this one a few years back. Excellent view, rooms and price.
The price of the room includes a continental breakfast. It's also within
a five minute walk of many excellent restaurants and pubs.

Enjoy.

I've stayed in Hotellerie Fleur de Lys twice. Nothing particularly noteworthy
about it, except that it has a nice location adjacent to a park overlooking
the river and old (lower) city.

I stayed for four days at the Hotellerie Fleur de Lys during my last visit
to Quebec City in the fall of '88.

The outside looks "ordinary" but the interior is very, very up-to-date !
The rooms are very, clean. The staff I encountered were very, very, polite
and fluently bilingual. Fleur de Lys is not far from Hotel Clarendon -
(which has a good Jazz club on the ground floor) on the same street.

It's also a walking distance from the Chateau Frontenac and the
Promenade along the St. Lawrence River.

One house rule is that, if you park your car in the enclosed garage of
the Hotel your car's keys should be left at the front desk.

You also have a free continental breakfast.
Rates: The higher the floor level, the more expensive it gets. Very
    reasonable rates - overall.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Quebec City. The first night we
stayed at The Chateu Frontenac, found it to be just a bit expensive!
So for the rest of the trip, we stayed at the Ramada Inn in St. Foy. I
realize that this does not sound very charming, but we found it to be
quite comfortable, very clean, and it had a great restaraunt. We just
parked the car (for free) and took the bus into Quebec City. The
busses were also quite clean, and ran into the wee hours of the night.
Plus it was only about a ten minute ride, much easier than trying to
negotiate the traffic in the old city! Best vacation I've ever
    had!!!!!!!

Can anybody give some phone numbers for the previously named
	places?

I'm thinking of staying in Quebec City for Thanksgiving Weekend
(the US one - November 22-25). Any suggestions about what's
	going on?

231.8Le Chateau Frontenac??MSD52::ENMANTue Jan 08 1991 16:2414
My wife and I are planning an escape weekend to Quebec City on Jan
    18, 19, 20 and 21. I've looked at the Tourist Guide and called a
few of the hotels about their rates etc. I called Le Chateau Frontenac
out of curiosity and found that they have a special rate of $82
for three nights or more. This is still somewhat more than some
of the other places I called (Hotel Bellevue-$59, Hotellerie Fluer
de Lys-$70). Is there something about the Frontenac that makes it
    worth the extra cost?

How far a drive is the ski area at Mont-Ste-Anne from Quebec city?

    Thanks in advance.

The Chateau has it's own parking house (at least in 1989 it had), so
    maybe no problem there.

It does have some good special rates. Some of it's uniqueness is it's
location within the walls of the old city and on the cliffs over the
ST-Laurent. It is more impressing from the outside than from the
    inside.

Over all it is a special experience.

I stayed at the Chateau Fleur de Lys (different from the Hotellerie)
this past Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. It's similar to a bed and
breakfast (about $3 extra if you want a continental bkfast).

We stayed in a charming, quaint room with a private bath, for
$50/night, free parking in their lot in back. It's next to a park and
you can see the river from the front door. It was close enough to walk
to everything, yet on the outskirts so it was very quiet at night.

We would definitely stay there again (hospitality was excellent too).

Hello, I am planning a trip up to Quebec City the weekend of August
    6th.

I noticed that the last entry was put in this file in 1991.

Could someone make a suggestion of a place to stay for two couples
    maybe 3 nights.

We would also be interested in suggestions for restaurants.

    Merci
