229.0. "^*^*^ BANFF ^*^*^" by VFOFS::DICKERSON () Tue Sep 12 1989 20:08

    			<< BANFF INFO. PLEASE >>

    Hello Out There,

I'm planning a trip to BANFF this coming March and would like to
receive any information I can get. Can anyone tell me of a good
place to stay in BANFF. I'm planning to stay at the Banff Springs
Hotel for a couple of nights. But for the rest of the week I want
to be able to stay in a cheaper place like breakfast/bed or at an
inn. I'm also looking for point of interests, restaurants and
activities (e.g. skiing, snow mobling, sled rides) information you
    all can pass my way.

    Thank you in advance,

    Phil...

We found all sorts of information by the combined Montanna, Alberta,
and Wyoming tourist bureau(s) from an address in the National Geographic.

Also, Canadian Rail (Canadian National?) has info specific to Banff the
last time we were there.

If you are flying in, then pick up your information at the Calgary
Airport. If you are driving from the East or US just pick up the
information from any Travel Alberta information centre once you
have your passport stamp at the border of people's republic of Alberta.

Since you are staying at the Banff Spring Hotel then your first couple
of days will be taken care of I presume.

Skiing : Lake Louise (45min from Banff) great skiing
Sunshine (20min from Banff) technically tough (Black
    				 runs at the top)
Mount Allen	(60min from Banff) that's where the 88
    						   Winter Olympics downhill

Sled Ride : There will be horse drawn sled ride at Lake Louise and also
dog sled rides (contact Doug Hanna at the Chateau Lake
Louise). He also take tourist camping in the forest by
dog sled teams. Two of my ex-Siberian Huskies are working
for Doug's partner at Lake Louise.

Snow mobil: There are hundreds of kilimeters of ski-do trails in
Kananakis Country which is about an hour from Banff.

Somewhere Cheaper : You can try Canmore which is just outside the
National Park and half an hour from Banff. I assume you
have wheels or dog sled team to get around in March ?

You can call Traval Alberta at (800) 661-8888 for a _very_ large
listing of all accomodations in Alberta.

Another number is (403) 762-4646 for the Banff Chamber of Commerce
or (403) 762-4256 for Banff Info.

I have called these numbers for similiar information and I received
an abundance of information- all within two weeks.

By the way, I got these numbers from a book tilted "Guide to Western
Canada" written by Frederick Pratson. The publisher is The Globe
Pequot Press. This book has more numbers and more info on Western
Canada then one could ever use.- and hints on fun stuff to do and
see while visiting, for all seasons. I recommend picking up a copy
if you plan to tour the area.

    Have a blast!!!
