185.0. "Transportation between Ottawa and Dorval Airport" by CLOSUS::HOE (Sammy's a toddler now.) Wed May 31 1989 17:00

Qusetion on transportation between Ottawa and Dorval Airport. Is
there an air shuttle or a bus/limo to Dorval from Ottawa? I have
found some inexpensive airfare from Denver to/from Dorval but our
travel agent here in Colorado Springs does not have access to
ground transport to or from Dorval from Ottawa.

There is air transport between the two cities. Air Canada, and
Canadian run these. The train runs between these locations. It
is a little like going from nowhere to nowhere. The train station
in Ottawa is not the easiest spot to get to/from (in my opion).
Travel time by air is about 1/2 hour. By car/train is 2, 2.5 hours.

What connections did you find that will get you to/from Denver.
The CSC here does a lot of travel to CXO and your information might
    provide a "better" route.

rent a car at avis and drive. It is probably cheaper and faster. It
would take you between 1.5 - 2 hrs.

185.4limo reservations?EN::VARDARONancyFri Sep 27 1991 17:3213
    Hi,

I am arriving in Toronto next weekend and since I will not be
renting a car, it was recommended by the hotel that I use
the limo service to the hotel, but the women I was speaking with
hung up so fast, I didn't get a chance to ask her if I need
to make reservations ahead of time!

    Does anyone know?

    Thanks,

185.5Limo service in TO.TROOA::SMCDONALDFri Sep 27 1991 18:248
    Nancy,

You might want to use the airport limo as compared to the city taxi.
The city taxi's normally stiff you and charge a hefty sum. You usually
can get an airport limo just outside the terminal with no reservation
required. Ask the limo driver the cost before you enter the limo.

Some hotels offer their own airport "limo" which is really a small
airport car-rentals type bus. Maybe she was referring to that ?

Otherwise at TO there are taxis and limos available ... the taxis
bill on a meter and are generally scruffier, whereas the limos
are flat rate to a given zone and much cleaner. The actual bottom
line prices are quite similar within a few dollars (unless a taxi
gets held up in traffic whereon the taxi can be much more expensive!)
185.7Taxis can be flat rate tooTROOA::SOLEYI will not belch the national anthemFri Sep 27 1991 20:0212
Taxis which serve the airport MUST by law quote you a flat rate if you
request it. It is usually a couple bucks higher than you might pay if
on the meter in good traffic but in bad traffic it's the way to go,
since you can't know what the traffic is like standing at a taxi stand
go for the flat rate anyway. If a taxi driver refuses to quote you a
flat rate flag the nearest taxi cop (easy to spot, he'll be the one in
the red tunic on horseback ;-)). From the airport to anywhere in Metro
Toronto will be less than 35 C$ (it was 23 C$ to my home, which is
downtown, last time I did this but that was a couple years ago) so try the
next cab in line if they quote you more than that.

Thanks for your help everyone ..the hotel offers no limo service
of it's own, so she was referring to the airport limo. She also
mentioned the price would be about the same as a taxi, so I think
I might got the limo route.

    Your quick replies are appreciated!

DEFINITELY go the limo route. The price is right and sitting in the
back seat of a Lincoln beats the heck out of a clapped out 1982
    Plymouth cab.
