124.0. "Canadian Trivia" by CADSE::WONG (Le Chinois Fou) Fri Sep 30 1988 23:15

Ever since I've moved to the states (18 years ago), I've always
    wondered...

Is Simpson Sears related in any way to Sears, & Roebuck?

To my recollection it used to be the Robert Simpson Company and
then Sears "bought" a stake in the company. Several years later,
Simpson Sears was acquired by the Hudson Bay Company.

Almost. The Sears is the US Sears.

They had formed a joint venture with Robert Simpson Co which was
    know as Simpson Sears.

Some years ago, approx 5, they decided to split and the Robert Simpson
Co was taken over by the Hudson Bay Co. It still operates as a separate
company with a higher grade of merchandise than the Bay.

Sears continues on its own as Sears Canada Inc.

Is it still Simpson's and Eatons the Big 2 catalog companies, or
has others moved in on their territory? I remember living
in a little town about 100 miles north from Toronto and ordering
things through their catalog office in the town.
