    re .5

    Thanks. You mean I get on 495 then 95 then 91 then 55 then 10. The
    alternative is of course 90 then 91 then 55 then 10. I assume the
    first choice is shorter?

Eugene,

You don't need to go anywhere near 95. Coming from Worcester, take 290 to
495 to 3 to the Everett Turnpike (no number) to 293 to 93 through Franconia
Notch to 91 to 55 then 10.

Getting on 91 anywhere south of St. Johnsbury takes you further west than
you need to go.

111.9I still like 89 north !20862::OSTIGUYSecure it or SHARE itThu Jul 05 1990 14:046
    Take a loook at rt 89....to the border

    it runs at an angle and is a nice scenic road and sh/be
    less mileage than going straight up and then accross.

    RT 89 is teeming with cops, I like 93-91 because it is less traveled
    than 89, thus less policemen and I think the scenery is better.

    Now the REAL reason, I usualy come down 89 and go back up the other way
    and it's mainly because I forget to turn left at the 93 to 89 junction.

111.11no wonder you missed it!AIMTEC::BURDEN_DNo! Your *other* right!Thu Jul 05 1990 15:597
    Nit, you turn right to get from 93 north to 89 north. It's just a
    rather long right hand turn....

    Also, 89 is mostly 65 mph, while 93 drops down to 45 or so through the
    notch.

    Now I am really confused. I thought 93 is at least 55 all the way. I
    checked 89, but when 89 runs into Canada, it turns into some back ally
    road 133 (I think).

re .12

Correct. When 89 gets to Canada, you start having to go through several
small towns.

93 is 65 except through Concord. However, through the notch, 93 ends, and
you are on the "Franconia Notch Parkway" which is 45 for about 8 miles, but
is still limited access.

This discussion exists, at length, in some other topic in this conference,
including the fact that the 93 route is faster than the 89 route, though
it may be about 5-10 miles further. 89 isn't much shorter when you take
a good look at it, because it twists and turns through the White River
valley.

111.16How about I-90 then I-87!!!HDLITE::ALJAARFri Jul 06 1990 22:4314
Hi;

	Another alternative would be to go on I-90 towards Albany, NY, and then
take I-87 north all the way into Montreal. Although it may seem far stretched,
it is my preferrable way. In fact, I have taken other roads, but this *seems* to
be the shortest and the most pleasant. It takes about 6 hours from Auburn to
Montreal. Besides, it is the easiest, and you are all the way on the highway. No
turns, no small towns to go through, and you go right straight into Montreal!

	Try it, you'll love it...

	Bon Voyage!

Robi.
111.17No waiting at the I-91/55 border, either... not true at 87!COVERT::COVERTJohn R. CovertSat Jul 07 1990 04:5911
Well, since it's four hours, thirty minutes from the NH/Mass Border to
Montreal via the 3/ETpk/293/93/FNPkwy/93/91/55/10 route, which also has
no turns, no small towns, and takes you right into Montreal, and since
it's less than one hour from Auburn to the NH/Mass Border on 290/495/3,
and since the total tolls are only $1.50, I don't think 90/87, with its
high tolls, extra half hour and heavy traffic is worth it.

And it's _certainly_ not worth it from anywhere closer to 93, such as
Marlboro, Boston, Acton, Nashua, etc.

111.18Lodging along the routeFSOA::WSUKERNEKMon Aug 26 1991 12:4511
This weekend, I'm going back to Montreal for the first time in seven years
since I graduated from McGill. I certainly have the route down pat based on
the previous discussion. :)

I'd like to stay at an inn on Friday night somewhere along the route (I91
or I93) that's within two hours of Montreal. Hopefully, the place will be
quaint and inexpensive.

Sorry for the short notice,

Warren
111.19COVERT::COVERTJohn R. CovertMon Aug 26 1991 13:3018
I can recommend an _expensive_ inn two hours and fifteen minutes from
Montreal -- the Rabbit Hill Inn in Lower Waterford, Vermont. 802 748-5168.
It is right off I-93 at the Vermont/NH border. Northbound, you would get
off I-93 at the last exit in NH and use state highway 18. In the morning,
you would continue north on 18 to the first entrance in Vermont.

With a gourmet dinner and breakfast for two, expect to spend $200ish.

Once an inexpensive inn, it was bought about five years ago while not even
for sale by a couple from New York who wanted an inn so badly they made
the former owners an offer they could not refuse. The new innkeepers found
out after nine months that they were not cut out for innkeeping and sold
the inn again, but with the new mortgage, the inn is no longer $60/night!

However, it has been, for the past few years, rated by "Uncle Ben's Rice"
as the number one country inn in North America. A rating it deserves.

    	Ok, if I follow the directions in .17 from Nashua to
    	Montreal.....once I get *into* Montreal..

    	Can anyone tell me how to get to the Best Western Int'l
    	Hotel at the airport in Dorval? Address is 13000
    	Cote de Liesse (sp).

    	I can call the hotel if I have to but thought I'd give
    	this a shot first.....

    	Thanks!
