    Pat Burns is the likely candidate for the coaching job
    in Montreal although he is inexperienced.
    They should try to convince Jacques Lemaire to coach next
    season with Burns as his assistant.
    
    Bruins are done like dinner!!
    Judging by the post game interviews with the Boston players
    it looks like they are ready to roll over and die in game #4.
    I wonder if they're going to even bother showing up tonight.
    
    Oilers' defence is weak (excluding Steve Smith) and good
    forechecking should produce good scoring chances.
    So why has every team they've played so far, been sitting
    outside the blue line and let Edmonton's wimpy defencemen
    carry the puck up the ice??? It beats me.

    	I agree with you on both counts.

	The Bruins are going to come out flying bur Fuhr will be great and the 
Oilers will put a couple of quick ones in and take the wind out of the B's 
sails. The fact that the Oilers would win the cup was a foregone conclusion 
when I witnessed them extinguish the Flames the way they did. It's a good thing
the Habs won the cup in 86 or else their record would have been tied this year.

    	My guess in .3 still stands for tonight. The hockey season is finally
over. Hopefully in a years time I will be wrenching my gut in front
    of the tube watching the Habs play for the cup!

    Pat Burns has officially been named as head coach of
    the Habs. Hopefully he's prepared for the pressure of
    coaching in Montreal. I think he's just the man to take
    them to the cup next year if he's given half a chance.
    All we need to do now is to get rid of some deadwood
    (Chelios,Corson). I would have mentionned Dahlin but
    he's gone back home where nobody will try to bruise him.
    
    Well, the season finally ends with the Oilers pounding
    the (big,bad????) Bruins to end their coast through the 
    playoffs.
    
    Now comes the draft and off season trades. It could be 
    interesting.

    Since Thursday's announcement on the french tv station,
    I haven't heard anything else about Burns being the 
    next Habs coach. Maybe they were jumping the gun a little.

	Television Quatre-Saisons is a relatively new French television 
network that operates out of Montreal. They really seem to cover sports
very well and seem to always get the inside scoop on the Montreal Canadiens.
Last week I watched them interview Jean Perron about his resignation. 
Apparently, a lot of crying went on in the Perron household. Jean said his wife 
cried all day. It was quite an animated interview and Jean greatly regrets the 
way things turned out.
	I watched more Canadiens hockey last winter than I ever have before
because Quatre-Saisons covers them so well, especially when they play the 
Quebec Nordiques.

    The Habs new coach was the topic and most fans seem
    to like the choice. So do I.
    Apparently, Michel Bergeron's name was brought up

    Well, 'Trader Phil' is at it again. Walt Podubny (35 goals last
    season) and someone else go to Quebec for Normand Rochefort and
    Jason Lafreniere. The Rangers finally get some stability on 
    defence and might challenge the leaders. As for the Nordiques,
    they lose what little stability they had. Looks like they're
    basement bound again.
    
    Does anyone know who else is going to Quebec ??

    Wayne is obviously a family man and I think it's great to see someone
    with so much at stake put his family ahead of his career. This was
    planned long before they got married. They've waisted no time in
    starting their family.
    
    The only thing I didn't like about Gretsky was that he played for
    the Edmonton Oilers. Now I can really chear for him because he's
    playing for an underdog.
    
    Wayne moving to L.A. is good for hockey! Now the great game is going
    to get some great exposure because of him.
    
    I don't feel sorry for the Oilers or Edmonton.
    
    Have you taken a good look at his wife??? I think she's worth it!

    I sure have taken a good look at Janet (although not in last year's
    Playboy).  I sure hope that there is something upstairs to compliment
    the rest.
    
    The next question is if Wayne is all part of the Free Trade agreement??
    Are we going to start sending our national heros to the U.S.??
    
    BTW, Wayne's father doesn't seem to be too pleased about his son
    moving to the U.S.
    
    I personally think that it's good to see him move to another team,
    especially one that could use him (like the Leafs :-)).  Next season,
    we'll see if LA got their money's worth and if Edmonton can survive
    without #99.
    
    I would have question the trade if LA would have given up Luc
    Robitaille, it would have been a great lost to the Kings.

    This trade seems to be beneficial for everyone involved except
    the Oilers and their fans (p.s. I'm not one of them).
    
    The only question remains: Who requested the trade?
    
    According to Paul Coffey who is a close friend of Wayne's, the 
    great one told him a few days ago that the trade was going to 
    happen and he didn't want to leave Edmonton.
    Who's telling the truth???????? The National Enquirer will 
    probably fill us in on the details.
    
    Which team will benefit more from the trade?
    The Kings. I think the Oilers got screwed.
    
    Which individual will benefit more from the trade?
    Peter Pocklington (10-15 Million!!). Did he initiate this trade
    because he needed the money? Ask Paul Coffey, he'll say 'yes'.
    
    The city of Edmonton will be in mourning for a while.

    Re .23  The official word that Gretsky gave to the press is that
    he requested it.  According to Janet, she said that she did not
    influence his decision and would support him no matter what he
    decided.  Sounds like LOVE to me.  How long have they known each

    Seeing as how Wayne's wife of 3 weeks is already pregnant, it seems
    like Gretzky may have set another scoring record.
    
    Yesterday over 1000 people requested season tickets for the kings,
    and they are expecting 5000 total by the end of the week.
    
    Initially, I thought the Kings were getting raped, but since
    Krushelnysky and McSorely got thrown in, I think it's a semi-fair
    trade.  Only now Wayne won't be able to pass to Kurri for those
    million assists a year.
    
    And while everyone's talking about Canada losing its greatest hockey
    player, look at it this way....so is the U.S. (Carson)....and Wayne
    started back in Indiana anyway...

    You're right.  Carson is the best US hockey player, but that doesn't
    mean much.  It's like being the best Zimbabwaian Jai-Alai player (well,
    kinda like that).  :^)
    
    What this means to me living in LA is that I won't be able to pick
    up a good cheap seat to see a Kings game, because now all of the
    nouveau-riche from hollywood who don't know what color a puck is
    will be grabbing season tickets, since it will be 'cool' now.

    wants an invite to the King's Training Camp!!  He's 37 years old
    and hasn't played in four years (and his final years were less than
    spectacular).  Now he wants a crack at playing with Gretsky.
    
    Now, 37 years old is not necessarily too old to play in the NHL
    but not everybody can be Gordie Howe!!

    The Village Voice of this week says Guy Lafleur is going to try
    out with the NY Rangers. Can this be? A true hockey fan can only
    hope. Its hard to root for the NJ Devils! Just doesn't seem natural.
    
    Of course the Rangers can use all the help they can get. Why rumor
    has it that Guy has even stopped smoking!

    Lafleur has signed a contract with NY Rangers. If he makes the team
    he receives $x and his contract is renewable for one year at the
    team's option if he plays well. Sounds like NY is in a Win Win

    didn't want any part of it. I only hope he isn't too old to make

    This is great! Since moving to NY from Montreal 4 years ago, my
    two favorite players have moved here too. Lafleur and Gary Carter.

    I am from NH and I'm planning a batchelor party in Montreal for my brother.
    I got the idea of having the party the weekend of Mar 31, thinking it might
    be possible to find tickets to the Habs/Bruins game Mar 31.  

    What do you think?  Is it probably sold out?  Can anyone give me pointers
    of where to call?  I'm interested in 8 or more tickets.

A question from a die-hard hockey fan. I've been saying for year now that I am 
going to make a trip to hockey's mecca (The Montreal Forum), and it looks like 
I'm finally gonna do it this year. My beloved Boston Bruins are playing up 
there on a Saturday night in December, and its the perfect date for a 
roadtrip!

Question - what is the best way to get tickets to a Canadien's game at the 
Forum? I called the Forum directly, and they said they won't ship tickets, 
that you have to buy them in person. Are there any ticket agencies that might
carry them? Or are there any other ways anyone would recommend???

I figure its best to plan ahead and try and get them now!

    This might sound strange to you, but there is normally no problem to
    get STANDING room tickets a few days before the game or even on the
    same day. I always got them (except some super-hot games), regular
    season only! Don't know about playoffs.
    
    When talking about STRANGE i mean standing. This really seems to be
    strange in northern american arenas (there are only a few of them in
    the FORUM). For me, as an european, this is simply normal. I prefer
    standing, never saw a sports event sitting (except a baseball game
    in Milwaukee). Europ. (at least german) sports arenas are 70-80%
    standing. This is in the process of change, though (unfortunately).
    
    Helps? Guess not, I tried.

Thanks for ideas so far. Both have merit, but I would prefer to already have
seats beforehand, and preferably good ones. There are probably 6-7 of us going 
up, all hockey fanatics, and we're going up for the weekend specifically to 
visit the Forum (hockey's Mecca), and we'd like to ensure that we all sit 
together. And since who knows when we'll do this again, if ever, it would 
be nice if we had good seats for our trip. I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable 
premium.....

I know that around the Boston area, there are a lot of private ticket agencies 
that sell tickets to Garden events, including the Bruins. Yes, they charge a 
premium, but its worth it if insures that you see the game. I just thought 
there may be similar tickets agencies in Montreal that I can deal with via 
mail or phone (charging it to plastic).

    it hasn't been the same since the days of Pal Hal, but that is
    only a phase.  Why, if you took a person from 20 years ago and showed
    him the Forum today he'd tell you that isn't the Forum!  It may be
    in the same spot, but it isn't the Forum!

    This is Canada and its Saturday night and that means hockey and "live,
    coast to coast on CBC", the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. the Montreal
    Canadiens is the last game that the Leafs will play at the Forum. For
    over 60 years this has been a classic matchup between these 2 teams,
    the whole country will be glued to the set (ever see that little scene
    of the family watching the hockey game at the new Hockey Hall of
    Fame...) Get some popcorn, let the kids stay up late and save the price
    of a video. (if you're in the serious boonies, Foster Hewitt will
    probably be doing the radio broadcast somewhere on the dial...) Pass
