46.0. "News from Chess Festival in St.Johns" by POTARU::COUPAL (A lost sock in the laundromat of oblivion) Mon Jan 25 1988 19:35

        Can someone in NB post some results of the Chess Festival going
        on in St.Johns ? There doesn't seem to be too many results
        leaking from the Press.

        Thanks in advance,

46.1We'll try to keep upKAOA01::GLOBRIENGlenn A. O'Brien @TRCTue Jan 26 1988 15:333
    We only have a couple of New Brunswick offices, and with very few
    people. I'll try to keep you up to date as best I can. And the
    city is Saint John, N.B. St.John's is in another province, Newfoundland.
46.2Canadian Winner!KAOA02::SEEDWed Feb 10 1988 15:335
    And while the interest level is still high...

    Canadian Ken Spraggett beat the Soviet (not sure of his name) in
    "sudden-death" style play. After many draws, this was the only way
    the contest organisers could think of to decide a winner.
46.3Tal takes the blitz titleKAOA01::GLOBRIENGlenn A. O'Brien @TRCTue Feb 23 1988 00:553
    Mikael Tal (sp?) of the Soviet Union won the blitz chess tournament
    (10 minutes per game). Kasparov, the early favourite, was beaten by
    a Bulgarian player (Georgiev, I believe).
