27.0. "Canadian Short-Wave Broadcasts" by CRAZY8::SLATER (Bachelor's wives & old maid's kids.) Mon Nov 16 1987 22:40
For anyone living in Southern New Hampshire and interested in
Canadian news and sports, you might try listening on short-wave.
Radio Canada International broadcasts every day at various times and
on various frequencies, to the U.S. and to Europe. Of particular note
are the "World at Six" and "As it Happens", broadcast every night at
18:00 and 21:00 local time in English, and in French at 19:00 local
time. Also, on Sunday mornings you can catch the regular "Sunday
Morning" programme.
You can write to them for a programme schedule at
Radio Canada International
P.O. Box 6000,
Montreal, Quebec,
Canada H3C 3A8
For sports, you can pick up CFCX, the CFCF Montreal (AM 60)
short-wave rebroadcast on 6005 kHz in the 49 meter band,
24 hours a day. The 49 meter band gets pretty busy at night,
however.
Another station that you can pick up from time to time is
CFRX, the CFRB Toronto short-wave rebroadcast on 6070 kHz in
the 49 meter band.
And finally, there's CHNX, the CHNS Halifax short-wave rebroadcast
on 6130 kHz in the 49 meter band, although I haven't had much luck
picking this station up.
Happy listening,
Marc
