    Which Sheraton?

If you're downtown there are lots of clubs within walking distance
and it also depends on your taste in music, whether you like to
    dance etc.

There are also loads of restaurants, and again depending on your
food preference, budget etc (Everything from Armenian to Ukrainian
    - from $30 to $200 including wine).

Some suggestions for the Labour Day weekend:

Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) winds up
traditional events for the Labour Day weekend include the Air
    	Show over Lake Ontario.
Blue Jays Game (not sure if they are in town)

    Ontario Place

    Harbourfront
    	Shops, crafts, restaurants etc

CN Tower (I've never been up there naturally)
I understand there's a good view on a clear day

Ontario Science Centre (Uptown a ways)

    Royal Ontario Museum

There are (of course) hundreds of things to do. I'd suggest that you
consult the local papers (or local contemporaries) for other special
    events.

Bye the way, Niagara Falls is about a 1.5 - 2.0 hr drive around
    the westend of Lake Ontario.

I hope you enjoy your stay,

16.3Ideas for Toronto & Ottawa?SAFETY::MAZEAUWed Mar 15 1989 10:3614

I will be going to Toronto and Ottawa during the week of April 10 and I am
looking for ideas on what to see, where to go. Besides driving from TO to
Ottawa, I don't want to do much extra driving. In Toronto I have already
been to the ROM, Science Centre, Ontario Place, CN Tower, zoo, shopping
on other trips. How is that new (not so new now) amusement park north
of the city? How about parks and formal gardens? My only plans for Ottawa
are a tour of the mint. Does anyone have some other suggestions?

Also, about what is the current exchange rate now?
Thanks.

You don't say how long you are going to be in Ottawa nor if you
have been here before and if so what you have seen. So it's a little
difficult to give lots of recommendations.

Definitely see the new National Gallery, it is a on the same block
as the Mint so you won't even have to find a new parking spot. It
    is truly magnificent.

Depending on the weather between now and then, it is quite probable
that the crocus will be up and it is possible that other flowers
will also be in bloom. A tour along the canal would be nice.

Naturally there are the Parliament buildings and other museums to
see. If you don't mind a little more driving, go into Gatineau park
some of the nicest scenery, even in muddy spring.

Give us a few more ideas as to your likes/dislikes and how long
you will be here. We'll be glad to give you more suggestions.

    re: .3

Canada's Wonderland, the amusement park you referred to, is not
open. If you come back in the summer, it's worth a day (and you
    need a full day).

You didn't mention the Art Gallery of Ontario, which happens
to be a 2 minute walk from our downtown office. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the replies so far. I will be in Canada from the 8th
of April until the 17th. My trip to Ottawa is three days in the
middle of the week (t,w,th). The type of stuff I like are art
and science museums, anything outside like parks, flowers, views.
What I'm not real interested in are bars, clubs, restaurants. Also,
I like to be with the local people and not surrounded by hordes
    of tourists.

Not sure if some of these are open 7 days/week in April, so
check if in doubt:

	Some other things in Toronto:
Ferry to Toronto Island, chinatown, hot veal sandwich at San Francesco
Sandwiches fast food joint (personal bias!), Planetarium at the museum,
the Jupiter space trip at the CN tower, Black Creek Pioneer Village, Old
Fort York, Harbourfront, bicycling on the extensive bike paths, James
Gardens, Edwards Gardens, pick up a copy of NOW mag in a record store
(and see what's on at the night clubs etc., "art" movie theatres, some
good local professional theatre etc -- if you've been vaccinated
recently it's safe to read the personals), Saint Lawrence market,
Kensington market, Sunday flea markets at Stouffville and Pickering,
tour the nuclear generating plant at Pickering (a big one - 8 reactors,
quite interesting - good conversation hook some day to say you saw it
before it blew!), a number of Conservation areas have guided tours/talks
in the spring.

On the way to Ottawa: go 401 to Morrisburg, then up 16. Catch
the Upper Canada Village at Morrisburg, recreation of life in the last
century including 3 amazing operating mills (sawmill, woollen mill, and
flour mill).

Some Ottawa: bike on the extensive bike paths, Saturday night in
the Market area, Sunday market, brand new glorious museums - art,
museum of civilization in Hull, and aviation in Rockliffe), tour of
Parliament bldgs, visit to the National Arts Centre., Stittsville flea
market on Sunday, shopping at the Rideau Centre, go to French restaurant
in Hull - Cafe Henri Burger will do nicely and walk around Hull downtown
while yr there, a few interesting blocks there if you can find them.
