| We began the season very late with two games last weekend.
The first game was Soccer Scene vs. Fuller Hamlets. This is
a continuing saga, for these two GU15 teams have played one
another at least a dozen times over the past 5 years, always
close games, usually a bit emotional.
This was a pretty good game, hard fought, reasonable
reffing (especially for a game on Mr. Martin's fields), and a
reasonable 2-2 tie was the result. One very close call (with
which I disagreed, and I had the position to do so) of offsides
negated a very pretty cross, resulting in what should have been
(IMHO) a nice goal. On the other hand, The Fuller Hamlets
bounced at least three balls off the posts, so I'm not going
to complain... The 2-2 tie was a reasonable result for this
game.
The second game (next day) was against South Coast. Another
pretty even contest with the result of 3-2 for South Coast.
In general I would say that they beat Soccer Scene to the ball
(a lot), and the score was fair. It was 1-1 at the half, then
2-1, 3-1 and finally 3-2 (the final score being a free kick from
quite a ways out, rising the whole way, a real rocket into the
net).
Soccer Scene played with only 2 subs in each game due to
vacation (1 away), illness (1 each day) and injury (ACL recovery).
Weather was great both days, just about perfect for soccer, and the
fields have FINALLY begun to dry out!
Cheers!

| I believe that Youth Soccer is a creation of the insects
which control this planet - to provide food for the black
flies, misquitoes, and other nibbling critters that reside
near swampy areas that would otherwise remain uninhabited
and rarely visited.
GU16 match last Saturday. As I go to blow the whistle for
a foul I draw in a breath - and several of my cousins (gnat).
My coughing spell stops play! Not quite the signal they
recommend in the LOTG, but it worked.
