897.0. "IP connectivity problem in LKG" by CPEEDY::ANDERSON (Dave A.) Wed Apr 30 1997 18:42

This conference seems a bit dead these days, but maybe there's still
someone lurking here who knows something that will help.

IP connectivity between LKG and the rest of DEC.COM apparently died
last Friday (5 days ago!) and still hasn't been fixed. I'm told that a
call was logged with "the network people" on Friday, but have been able
to come up with no further information except what I've determined for
myself. (When I say "IP connectivity died" I mean that web access to
previously-bookmarked pages outside of LKG produces "host unreachable"
errors, attempts to send mail via SMTP to systems outside of LKG sit in
the queue forever, PING of systems outside LKG gets 100% failure
reported, etc. I don't know if the boundary is exactly LKG, but every
system inside LKG that I've tried is reachable and every system that
I've tried outside of LKG is not reachable.)

Does anyone know how I can find out what's happening and when it's
    likely to be fixed?

    Thanks in advance,

    	Dave

addresses in 16.20 work so you be in 16.22.

There was a problem with under/mis configured DECNIS but
that should have been fixed by now.

Things do seem to finally be working (well, I've still got some
problems on my own system, but those are presumably my own fault now).
    Both systems are in 16.20.

    Thanks,

    	Dave

PS: Do you know of any place I could look to find out what's going on
the next time this happens, other than asking here?

Why not call your local helpdesk? They should be aware of any
network outages.
